Most people seem to think tonight's game is going to be filled with goals and i am a little weary of this, Spain have only conceded 1 goal this whole Euro , making them the best defensive team so far , their stats are as follows , Goals for 8 , Goals against 1 ( in 4 matches ) , that 2.25 goals per game , and thats including the 4-0 vs a lowly Irish team , Portugal have 6 Goals for , 4 goals against-10 goals in 4 matches , Ave 2.5 per game , and 5 of those goals came in 1 match vs Denmark.
I see Spain controlling Possession tonight as they always do, They had 62% vs Italy ,66% vs Ireland , 64% vs Croatia and 55% vs France . When a team plays like this is can get very frustrating for the other side , it will also give Portugal a lot less time on the ball to create chances and score , i think that is why Spains defense has been so good , firstly they have world class defenders and secondly they dont allow the other team to have much time in the defensive 3rd of the field . That being said when Portugal do get the ball they are absolutely deadly on the counter attack , The Speed and control of Ronaldo and Nani down the wings are unmatched by any teams in the world in my opinion and that is what Portugal will look to do tonight , contain and counter.
The last time these 2 sides met Portugal won 4-0 in a friendly , and while this has no real meaning Spain will be hungry for revenge over their bitter rivals.Spain have 15 victories and 7 defeats overall to Portugal , The most recent competitive game between them was in the World cup 2010 where Spain won 1-0 .
So tonight i see this game being controlled by Spain especially in the midfield , Spain will need to shut down Ronaldo and Nani and they have the defense to do it , I just dont know if Portugal can score tonight , Spain kept France to 1 shot on goal the other night which is no easy task as the French have an amazing team especially in attack , i think this game will be a low scoring close game.
