STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS BETWEEN 45 AND 50 MPH WILL REMAIN POSSIBLE THROUGH THE NIGHT. ADVISORY MAY NEED TO BE EXTENDED INTO TOMORROW MORNING ESPECIALLY FOR AREAS CLOSER TO THE PENNSYLVANIA BORDER. THESE WINDS MAY BE ENOUGH TO DOWN TREE LIMBS AND POWER LINES. SCATTERED POWER OUTAGES MAY OCCUR.

A WIND ADVISORY MEANS THAT WIND GUSTS IN EXCESS OF 46 MPH ARE EXPECTED. WINDS THIS STRONG CAN MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT... ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. USE EXTRA CAUTION.

There are wind advisories out for the majority of Maryland.

Adam May reports winds are gusting as fast as cars on a highway across Maryland, and BGE's bracing for problems.

"We anticipate we'll see outages increase as the day goes on because of the wind, and once customers get home from work in the evening, they'll realize they're out of power and give us a call," said a BGE spokesperson.

Extra crews are on standby waiting for trouble reports, and for the first time in a while, BGE's storm center is staffed for the night.

"We do expect to experience outages through tomorrow midday, and we'll be working on restoration effort until it's complete," said BGE Vice President of Operations Steve Woerner.

In downtown Baltimore  in the afternoon, the winds whipped open jackets, opened briefcases as people waited to cross streets, darted garbage into tree branches and triggered walkers to seek cover.Because of the high wind gusts, BGE is dealing with several power outages throughout the state.

In all, there are just under 3,000 outages in the state around 3:30 p.m.

Wind restrictions are also in effect at the Bay Bridge.

The Maryland Transportation Authority is reporting sustained winds at the bridge between 40 and 49 miles per hour.

Empty house trailers or empty box trailers are prohibited from crossing. Other vehicles subject to strong winds, such as motorcycles or vehicles with roof-mounted racks, are advised to use caution when traveling.
