The gun grabbing left. Like the Brady Campaign, Violence Policy Center, and Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy.
The choice is not either banning all guns or having no restrictions.
That is just how the right wing extremists are framing the issue.
Really? Can you provide me an example of this? Who is saying anyone wants to ban all guns or we need to have no restrictions?
Also note:
In a radio interview on Thursday with Albany’s WGDJ-AM, New York governor Andrew Cuomo said that he plans to work with state legislators next month to submit a proposal for new gun-control laws; in particular, Cuomo said, “our focus is assault weapons,” because current state laws regulating the weapons “have more holes that Swiss cheese.”
“I don’t think legitimate sportsmen are going to say, ‘I need an assault weapon to go hunting,’” he said.
Cuomo continued, “Confiscation could be an option. Mandatory sale to the state could be an option. Permitting could be an option — keep your gun but permit it.”

Watching the far right wing of the Repubs come apart at the seams is the only solace one can take from this terrible tragedy.
Most Repubs I know are fine with basic regulations, waiting periods, etc. but watching the extremists scream as if their weapons are being seized reminds of a 3rd grader complaining that they are losing all their candy when the teacher takes chewing gum.
The Governor of one of the Nation's most populace states just said "Confiscation could be an option" in an interview.

You are correct. I do not hear anyone discussing confiscation. Of course, if certain weapons were banned, I imagine that would be by confiscation.
And lets keep in mind, we are discussing one very small percentage of weapons. Listening to the far right, one is led to believe the govt. is coming for them all.

What people refer to as "assault weapons" are responsible for less than 2 % of gun violence in the country.
DrJ is right that assault weapons account for a small percentage of gun violence. Also RARE for school shootings, mentally ill violence and gun massacres. They are just drops in the bucket. Even without guns, U.S. is still a very violent country. With guns everywhere, the murder rate is even higher. Unfortunately, violence problem is too big and U.S. is doomed to remain a dangerous country for foreseeable future.

I could care less about abortion or happy issues. Thats personal business. Most of my conservative buddies dont care about those social issues which get a huge amount of publicity for something the non religious folks dont care about. I do care about weapons though. I don't trust the government and I don't trust the police to ensure my safety. I do not expect the order of our society to last the next few decades.

so you agree that trusting armed guards, kindergarden teachers armed with assault rifles and frankly arming government paid guards is a bad idea....
Think the current GOP party has been in a complete tail spin since the first debate and have absolutely no feasible realistic ideas... having any strategy other then simply going opposite of obama is not a solution....
I fail to see anything conservative of of taking an event and making an emotional decision to write a blank check towards more weapons and armed police/guards...
How is an increase in spending conservative?
The whole thing sounds like another halliburton scheme where we take billions of dollar in government tax money and spend it on weapons to feel safe... nothing like another weapons company on a government check/welfare/socialism...
How is a bigger more armed government more conservative?
The conservative thing to do would be to engage in no changes in spending, laws or implementation of half baked ideas... The liberal thing would be to overreact emotionally demanding changes based on their agenda... liberals are doing acting like liberals...
but the GOP/teaparty/fox"news" are acting like liberals also demanding changes that result in increased spending and a bigger and more powerful government...
So if the GOP are acting like liberals... and liberals are acting like liberals... Who the heck is acting like a conservative?
To think that GOP and conservatism are some how related anymore is a complete joke and this overreaction in a completely insane manner is proof...
This is the problem with today's to party system and why so many like myself wanted paul/johnson because they actually embody conservative values and solutions....
GOP offers no solutions and they know it like with Plan B... what was wrong with boehner's plan? why didnt the GOP follow it? think it is because thankfully his own party is well aware of the fact that GOP offers no solutions because they are not conservative in their ideology
