Mr. La Pierre is now against universal background checks, something he was previously for and 80% of NRA members are for. Just WHO does Mr. La Pierre represent? NRA members? NO, he represents gun manufactures.

i was thinking the same thing. i'm against this latest round of gun control but i'm almost afraid to tell people because then people will know i'm on the same side as this nutjob. like most issues, when in doubt, figure out where the religious right or the gun nuts or other nuts are, and go the other way. unfortunately, i'm with the nuts on this one. you know what they say about a stopped clock.

As you know, I'm against your point of view, Rick and ClubDirt. But there's got to be somebody better to represent your side. He now says he's against Universal Background Checks for private sales of guns. That means that felons or crazies can purchase them without anybody finding out. Are you on that side too?

“The death toll by murder in Chicago over the past decade is greater than the number of American forces who have died in Afghanistan since the beginning of Operation Enduring Freedom, according to a police analysis."
==============
Why don't you point us to an actual gun control success story promark? I mean, you're utterly convinced gun control works. Where is the evidence?

That's the purpose of the background checks, to stop the felons or crazies to even attempt to buy a firearm.

Fact: In 2009, 70,000 people tried to buy a gun illegally. Only 70 were prosecuted.
Fact: Researchers in 2000 reviewed more than a decade of crime data in states with and without background checks. They found no significant difference in murder rates in states that had implemented the checks and states that had not, according to the study, which was published in The Journal of the American Medical Association.

since i'm on 14daroad's side on this issue, or at least partially, i will say that i saw a poll the other day, i forgot where, which said 120% of the people polled were against universal background checks and any other restrictions on any types of mechanisms that could kill people. it was pretty convincing.
in my defense, and consistent with post #5, i was strongly against what i considered the dumbest suggestion of all throughout this entire debate which was putting armed guards in all of the schools. of course, that suggestion came from the most liberal group of all- the rightwing republicans who are always in favor of spending as much as possible and making government as big as possible for the garbage they like and then criticizing the other side for spending money and increasing government.
