That means that felons or crazies can purchase them without anybody finding out.

If you think felons are going to submit to a "universal background check" I have some very valuable swamp land in Florida to sell you.

That's the purpose of the background checks, to stop the felons or crazies to even attempt to buy a firearm.

It is already illegal to sell a gun to a felon.

An FFL can not make a "private sale" without a background check under any circumstances.

It is already illegal for felon to purchase a firearm.

A person who is under indictment or information for a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding 1 year cannot lawfully receive a firearm.

So as we see "universal background checks" have nothing to do with keeping guns out of the hands of felons.
