lmfaooooooooooooooooooooooooooo your so funny and so full of crap at the same time. Your answer was the typical lawyer response that i was expecting to try and make you appear right. Well the fact is you are dead wrong on both counts. 40 million people added to the system is going to create lots and lots of new lawsuits, to sit here and try to say it wont be that many more lawsuits, is complete bullshit. MAYBE IF THE DEMOCRATS PUT TORT REFORM IN THE BILL IT WOULD BE DIFFERNT.
As far as new jobs, i highly doubt the lawyers wont be making great money taking care of all the depts this bill will create.
Bravo thousands of new jobs to family and friends of the politicians Just what the govt needs more people working for the govt at tax payer expense in a dept that is not needed Thousands of new lawyer jobs, for dj's buddies
This bill is a big pile of crap. People will now have the cost of their medcial insurance added to their incomes to figure out what their taxes will be Bravo great job. So a person with a 15k insurance policy and making 25k a year will suddenly be paying taxes on 40k Thats one huge tax hit for people. They will be wishing they could just go back to having their medical insurance premiums raised. Pretty sweet right dj, but our govt is looking out for us thou
People making 25k per year can't afford insurance. That is the reason for the government plan.
Too funny that you think tort reform would solve all our problems.
Oh well. Enjoy the plan that your union provided for you. Don't worry about other people facing the same problems. I will worry about them for you.

you are the typical kind of lawyer that i hate, always trying to twist words. I guess when you go to law school and give up your soul at the door this is what happens.
I never once said that tort reform would solve all the problems, show me one of my posts saying that, i expect to hear nothing but crickets. I said tort reform would be a start and help to save some costs. It costs nothing to add it to the bill and it could save some money, but your answer since you are a lawyer was, well its only going to save a little bit. Well heres a thought mr lawyer saving even 10 cents is still a savings. Dont you feel bad that your fellow buddies are driving good doctors out of business with all their crazy ass lawsuits which drive up the costs for doctors. These doctors are just trying to help people the best they can but these souless lawyers are ruining them. good job your fellow brothers are doing. Must be nice to know when your putting your head down on your pillow the field of work you got into is actually causing the cost of insurance to sky rocket, must make you sleep like a baby
I guess i will have to tell you again because you only hear what you want to hear, i paid for my insurance after i retired.
While i was on the job it was paid for by my employer, who chose to provide insurance to all its workers. In case you dont know this, employers can do this
Noew the difference between me and the friggin free loaders who are now going to have their insurance paid for by other people, is the fact that i went to work everyday and earned that insurance for doing my job for my employer who was kind enough to give me insurance. And yes am very proud that unions in our country fought to get insurance for their workers in all types of jobs.

maybe you should scan back up thru the thread and read what the one poster wrote. He makes 25k a year and does have insurance, but now the cost of that insurance will now be added to his income. So now he will be paying his income taxes on 40k a year instead of 25k a year.. Sounds real fair to me This person is going to be hit with roughly a 2200 tax hike on his taxes

Actually, someone making 25k per year would be eligible to have a percentage of his insurance paid for under the government's plan because of the correlation b/w the insurance cost and his salary.
Of course, then you will be accusing him of being a freeloader. Too funny.
As for your continued rants about lawyers, as I have said, the best way to measure any person is based on who they are. Judging people based on what they do, how they look, or what religion they are has caused problems since the advent of time. Interestingly, usually in fascist societies or dictatorships.

cd - the myth of tort reform having any significant impact on lowering health care costs is just that. A myth & basically just another bs Republican political talking point. The fact is many states already have had some form of tort reform in recent yrs & it has done little to nothing to lower costs, doctor fees or ins premiums/deductibles of private insurers. It's a political football & always has been. What I would like to see in many cases is a greater % of awards/damages going to the injured party rather than the attorneys.
I don't like frivolous or money hungry/grabbin suits any more than anyone else, but there's a ton of legitimate malpractice/negligence cases that usually are very hard to prove anyway (especially in the many states where legislation already favors docs/hospitals, etc) & when it IS proven, there shouldn't be a cap on the damages & the little guy (average folks) need the big time personal injury attys. And when/if it is won in a court of law, they should get hit & hit hard and folks who are badly damaged with long term consequences should receive as much as a jury wants to award. If this creates some so-called "defensive" & more personal medicine being practiced by some docs, I don't see that as neccessarily a bad thing.
As usual, the 'Pubs come up with most of their counter ideas either around election time or when they're not in power while giving mostly lip service the rest of the time in regards to things like education & healthcare reform & other issues which generally have the potential to benefit the lower/middle classes and average working man/woman & country as a whole. Easy for many to just say, "well, it's not a right" as if that pretty much covers it (though there are a ton of things our taxes go to that aren't a so-called contitutional right) while ignoring the reality of the situation as it is. Granted, Obama & his admin are farther left than what I'd like, but that's what you can get after an admin like the previous one.

Just saying that just like many here talk like the only ones that want & will benefit from a public option are the lazy freeloaders & illegal aliens, it's just as wrong to imply that all docs are innocent victims only doing their best in all cases. How do you put a price on folks who are seriously damaged (honest mistake/negligence or not) who die or have disabling consequences for the rest of their life & what they & their family go thru?

Sorry Cashin. Sound logic and analysis isn't accepted here in these parts. Demagogue, spread fear, misinform, and hate are acceptable though.

well tell me then who exactly wants this bill except for freeloaders and illegal aliens? Not one person in our very small test sampling here wanted it. These are all people am sure who work everyday and already have their own insurance. This notion that people with insurance want this bill is complete bs. The country needs to start doing what the majority of people want done and the majority dont want this piece of crap bill.
I suppose your also going to tell me that buying across state lines wont help reduce costs either, yet are wonderful democrats made sure to leave this off the bill, which wouldnt have cost the bill one damn cent by putting it in. You see i look at the whole picture to see if the democrats really want to help or just do another one of their power grabs. I hope they enjoy their brief time in power, because they are all going to get slaughtered in 2010 when the majority of people realize that they have been screwed over with higher taxes and worse healthcare. Some of you will never be able to see the forest thru the trees, no matter what is right in front of your own two eyes.
Truthfully am at the point now where i hope all these bills pass, so i can listen to all the liberals cry later on when they all get screwed over just like all of us. I sure hope you enjoy paying higher healthcare costs and get longer wait times, because if you think the govt can reduce healthcare costs by running the system, then you have been hitting the pipe way to much
Arent you a lawyer also?

By you backing this bill you are bascially saying you dont give a crap that your kids are going to be paying for this crap the rest of their lives with higher tax bills. I sure hope you leave them alot in your will, because they will need every penny, when our govt gets done raping them.

cd - no, not a lawyer though my late uncle's brother (Pat Maloney Sr.) was known as the "King of Torts" (lol) & a true underdog's champion in Texas at 1 time with many big-time political friends/foes.
All for buying across state lines but there again, it's not going to have any huge impact on lowering costs. Like most, have not read the entire bill & don't like some of what I've seen, but am for a much more affordable public option. It just needs to be good coverage & well run & there 1 can only hope -
Facts from all business.com:
1. Average liability premiums for general surgeons & internists are nearly 10% higher in states WITH caps on medical malpractice damages
2. Average liability premiums for OB/GYN's are nearly identical for states with or without caps
"Malpractice insurers promised that tort law changes would lower premiums yet it has not happened'.
So if premiums are not lowered, what good would it do? Further line the pockets of insurance cos?
