Republicans are really a dying breed. It's the evangelicals that neglect to acknowledge reasoning and facts when it comes to a variety of topics from stem cell research, abortion, global warming, etc..
This nation is becoming more and more progressive. My honest observation is that recently a lot of republicans would like to go back in time rather than move forward it seems like.

The underlying problem lies within those who are providing these statistics.
I could say Oprah is on a diet of 500 calories a day but nobody would believe me...Yet these guys can tell me 6% of Scientists identify themselves as Republicans?
Come on now, I'd be better off listening to the gambling advice in the NBA forum...

That 2009 article is from the huffingtonpost. Source of information might be reliable? Scientists are intelligent and educated thinkers. They may not be democrats but their view of the universe is closer to democrats than of republicans.

If you don't like outcome of the numbers and blame the source, or issues of reliability in the methodology, then what would you expect the numbers to actually be?
If these numbers are off, what should they actually look like?
How far off do you see these numbers from the actual number others studies say (reliability factor)?
Or is this an emotional reaction and u are actually clueless to the actual number?
Especially if your perception is that over 50% of scientists are GOP... Is that your view?
Seriously?

Lets break this down...

Only 6% of scientists identify themselves as Republicans.
..and the poll's margin of error +/- 6pts...lol
I see these scientist know where the Federal grants and scientist loans come from..no wonder they have shifted.
In October of 2012, 68 Nobel-winning scientists co-signed a strong endorsement of Obama....
68 Nobel- winning scientist ? They would be the ones who recieved their prize from the same organization, that gave Obama a peace prize.... Great standards.

The earth has cyclical climate patterns going way back....way back.
Ahhh f u c k you just proved everything wow... that's it I guess there's nothing more to debate.. You win, the world is flat, humans did not evolve from chimps, God created us etc etc....
Bowfuck just leave this thread. You're not an intellectual, we've known this for many months, maybe even a year now since you've been posting in the politics section.
I mean you're the same guy who thought that 80% of Americans own firearms..... Need I say more?????

I think this thread is about scientists not being GOP.... Not about scientists being devoted Obama supporters..."
The thread maybe directed toward scientist not being Republican, but if you read the whole article at the link...........the article is about scientist not being Republicans vs. those being strong Obama supporters. If you looked at the whole quote at the link you would know.
Only 6 percent of scientists identify as Republican, whereas 55 percent identify as Democratic. In October of 2012, 68 Nobel-winning scientists co-signed a strong endorsement of Obama, saying the President “has delivered on his promise to renew our faith in science-based decision making.”

so to summarize...
1. The topic is GOP being a dying breed...
2. Evangelicals failing to acknowledge reasoning and facts on a variety of subjects... as so well depicted by bowslit...
3. The nation becoming more and more progressive...
4. And the OP making an observation"that recently a lot of republicans would like to go back in time rather than move forward it seems like."
not sure how obama and democrats factor into this thread...
Another Classic sarasotaSpin

The Earth is warming. The Arctic Cap is melting and chunks of the Antarctic shelf are breaking off into the oceans. This is indisputable fact. Now, you can argue whether or not the warming is "man-made", but please don't tell us the Earth is not warming.
Otherwise you can sit in the PB with bowlslit for being an idiot.

Not to mention that 2012 was the hottest year on record for the continental US.

The Op made the topic GOP being a dying breed...but back it up with an almost 3 year old link... and he is giving what he calls " My honest observation " not fact ...that Republicans are really a dying breed. This is his opinion and it is not backed up by the link.
The Article compares R's to D's and their strong support of President Obama.
That link.. claims there is a political shift in the past decade by the scientists toward the Democratic Party and that they strongly endorsed Obama. It uses the comparison of 6% are Republican, whereas 55% identify as Democratic.
Without knowing what the percent of Republican scientist were in the past ..how can it be called a shift?
In the ranks of scientists in the United States Republicans have always been an underrepresented group..it is no suprise either, that most scientists themselves perceive the scientific community as politically liberal.
The wide partisan gap among scientists in this poll does not tell us what the % of Republicans were in the past if it has shifted .. because scientists have favored liberal views in numerous past studies.

What does it really matter whether scientist are R or D when the greatest scientist of them all Albert Einstein was neither. He was not a man of politics, but a man of science......and is on record as saying he believed that there was a God that maintained and created the harmony of the universe....

"It seems to me that the idea of a personal God is an anthropological concept which I cannot take seriously. I feel also not able to imagine some will or goal outside the human sphere. My views are near those of Spinoza: admiration for the beauty of and belief in the logical simplicity of the order which we can grasp humbly and only imperfectly. I believe that we have to content ourselves with our imperfect knowledge and understanding and treat values and moral obligations as a purely human problem—the most important of all human problems."
~ Albert Einstein
Hoffmann, Banesh (1972). Albert Einstein Creator and Rebel. New York: New American Library, p. 95
"The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honorable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this.
~ Albert Einstein "God Letter," which sold for over $3 million last October

Einstien did reject the idea of a "personal God" but embraced the view that God is a creative mind that manifest itself in the wonders of nature and he died holding on to that view..

"I don't try to imagine a God; it suffices to stand in awe of the structure of the world, insofar as it allows our inadequate senses to appreciate it."
Letter to S. Flesch, April 16, 1954; Einstein Archive 30-1154.''....Einstien died one year later. I doubt if in one year he changed his thinking.
He could see the glory of a God in all of creation,"wonders of nature" ,but felt God could not have an interest him/us, in the grand scheme of things..
In 1955... The year that he died. Einstein had occasion to remember three old friends. He wrote to Kurt Blumenfeld, 'I thank you belatedly for having made me conscious of my Jewish soul.'
