truth be known, it's probably more about the incentives that were offered by the state than anything. But in theory, Alabama comes out ahead in the long run.
Its mind boggling how some of you get so much enjoyment in wanting to see your fellow citizen make less money, get no health insurance, no retirment plans, no vacation etc etc.

It does seem unfair for a select group of people to live like sultans in the Hamptons (and elsewhere), while working families can hardly pay their mortgages. I wish I had a solution for that that doesn't scare me more than the problem. I still can't figure out why people on Wall Street got to keep bonuses they made selling junk - that they knew was junk when they sold it. If I were in charge, they'd be lucky not to be in Leavenworth, much less Bridgehampton. But, I'm not in charge, and I'm not sure how paying someone $34/hour to do a job someone in Alabama will do for $17/hour, and someone in Indonesia will do for $1.70/hour, really fixes any of that.
I know a fair amount of auto workers (or did). They did very well - far better than me - for many years. They didn't have student loans. Their weekends were free. They left work at 4:30. They drove new vehicles (my "newest" car ever was six-years-old when I bought it). Many had homes at the beach (I'm lucky if a take a real vacation, and sure as hell don't own a beach house). That plant is now gone, and they complain about getting "screwed."
I used to sit down the bar from a bunch of steelworkers, who would come in every day and tell stories about how they, and others, drank, slept, screwed, gambled, whatever on the job. I was there the day their plant closed, and all they could talk about was how they had been screwed over, how they worked their asses off for years, and so forth, I knew it was crap. So did they.
