I believe in being prepared for anything. There are all sorts of situations that could lead to martial law, or some other bad time.
I am not as sure of the situation as "doomsday preppers" are.
Fortunately I can still watch that show and chuckle to myself.
However I think that if you have a family, it is incumbent upon you to protect, and see to their needs in an emergency, many forms of "insurance" can be taken.
I personally have 7 days of food for 3 people
20 gallons of water (It costs next to nothing, and I had to use it already during a power outage this summer when there was a water advisory in my area). Not a life or death situation, there was still water on the shelves in the stores, but it feels good to be prepared for any longer outage.
I also purchased a 200 dollar 2nd hand generator from a friend. It will power my whole house, and runs really quietly.
I have 7, 5 gallon fuel cans that I try to keep filled (cycling into the lawn mower, and 4 wheeler to keep it fresh)
as far as firearms shotgun, AR-15, and 2 handguns. It is cheaper to buy rounds in bulk, so I have a few thousand rounds for the AR, 100+ for the shotgun, and 200 for the handguns.
I do not see myself getting into it with federales, but it is definitely nice to not worry about anything.
I guess my point is, that it is fun to point and laugh at clearly unhinged people on this show, but it is important to be able to care for yourself and your loved ones in an emergency.
I bet that there are millions of people in New York and New Jersey that do not find preparedness such a laughing matter anymore.
