Deny covering an operation for a 6 year old girl, who will otherwise lose her hearing. Doctor says he faces that many times per week.
Insurance company's = THE DEVIL.... that is why you need a single play system.
You don't need a single payer system to resolve this. A public option does the same thing.
Under the current system in most states, but not all, those under 18 whose family are at the poverty line (approx. 0-20k depending on size of family--varies though) will receive state coverage under the state's medicare funds.
Everyone else pays for health insurance, whether it is through work or individual. The obvious problems with this have been pointed out ad nuseum, but essentially too many uninsured and too many underinsured.
So how does this girl get covered--well, it depends upon the State, but essentially, she is covered by the new plan based upon her family's income, with money paid by taxes, but with said taxes, there is a savings to the consumer for their health plan. In other words, more taxes, and paying less in their coverage.
The joke that just keeps on coming is that we will have a Dr. shortage. I suppose that since that argument is coming from the same people that question Obama's birth certificate and stand in front of Fox News drooling, should tell you something.

Right, but under health care reform, her parents would pay the money they are paying now, but would get a better plan (state plan--and those plans are similar to the comprehensive blue cross plans). her family would fall into the underinsured category. That still effects our coverages because we either donate money to pay for her surgery, or the hospital performs the surgery and if they don't get paid, they raise rates to compensate, and thus my insurance goes up.

Not in countries that have government health care. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_health_care
And not in MA (was just named the healthiest state and best state for coverage of children and senior citizens).
Your argument on how we pay for it is more sound. ![]()
