I'm not sure that citing an opinion piece as a basis in fact for your global proposition is the best use of attempting to prove a theory.

perhaps it should read some americans are sick of funding israel...

you would think that fiscal conservatives would have an issue with
the funding/spending...

Just one of the many pieces. Honestly bro, I have no problem with person but when my federal tax paying dollars are going toward the state of Israel, personally I have a problem especially given our own fiscal debt problems..

14 and the others can attest to how bad of a job Obama is doing. So why give more foreign aid to this country. The moral and strategic arguments just don't hold up..

yeah I have no problems with person either...

I mean some of my best friends are jewish...

I just dont get how people can throw hissy fits over spending on things that benefit our own citizens and then be cool with "welfare/handouts" to other countries...

Israel has long been America 's biggest strategic bargain. Let's examine some facts. For FY2009, U.S. military grants to Israel was $2.55 billion. Since Israel's GDP in 2009 was $199B, total U.S. aid to Israel was merely 1.28 percent of its GDP. Viewed over the five year period of 2005–2009—total U.S. military aid was approximately $12B.

Total exports from the U.S. to Israel between 2005 and 2009 amounted to $57.6B—almost five times the $12B Israel received in U.S. aid during this period. The annual average of U.S. exports to Israel during this period was $11.7B, more than five times the average American aid package!

U.S. military aid to Israel creates a demand for, and the purchase of, tens of billions of dollars worth of U.S. weaponry by Saudi Arabia and other Arab states. U.S. grants to Israel —far from imposing a burden on the American tax payer—actually enriches the American economy.

According to Gen.George Keegan, between 1974 and 1990, Israeli aid to America was worth between $50–80B in intelligence, research, development savings, and Soviet weapons systems captured and transferred to the Pentagon, and testing Soviet military doctrines up to 1990 when the USSR collapsed.

Senator Daniel Inouye put it this way: "The contribution made by Israeli intelligence to America is greater than that provided by all NATO countries combined."”

I'm dying of laughter. That might be the stupidest thing I've read all month...

The point is we  (the US) subsidize every israeli $500 a year.. 3 billion a year and 154 billion since we started giving them aid..

Not only should this aid be almost completely phased out but we should never be giving money to another country if our own country is facing problems specifically our infrastructure concerning bridges, roads, inner city schools, lack of healthcare etc..

wouldnt make sense to me to escalating middle east violence if we ended up becoming a target of violence...

as much as I am against spendaholics engaging in international socialism... I think that the bigger issue might be safety of innocent people...

Bottom Line: The US does not help Israel purely out of benevolence. It does so because we benefit from it.
