Garrett Klotz suffered a seizure during a fight in an AHL game Friday. Klotz had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher and taken to the
hospital. He and Kevin Westgarth got into a fight at the very beginning
of Friday's game. Both players took off their helmets and Klotz also
suffered some cuts on his face. Fortunately, Klotz was responsive on
his way to the hospital and he was let out on Saturday. "It was a scary
incident," Philadelphia GM Paul Holmgren said. "But we just got word
from our doctor that he's clear. There's no facial fracture. They're
stitching him up. His jaw is fine and there's no tooth fracture or
anything. It's a scary ordeal, but he's going to be fine."

Fighting will be all but out of hockey within 10 years. Somebody is going to get seriously hurt in the NHL and that will be the end of it. Rules are coming to make it more difficult by next season.

Simple, run-on sentence format question here: What is the difference between two fighters in mutual agreement to try and hurt each other and a safety in football lining up a receiver up from 30 yards, sprinting towards him, and launching himself into the receiver's chest or head in hopes of obliterating the guy enough to either prevent a catch or jar the ball loose? Guys like Brian Dawkins from the Eagles have outstanding reputations as classy, professional football players and yet he looks like he's trying to decapitate receivers every game
What is the difference? Do not both instances create crowd frenzy? Is the object to not inflict pain on an opposing player? Seems like a double-standard to me.

Dawkins is a f'n cheap piece of shit. Who thinks he's classy?
But when DBs hit guys they do it to jar the ball loose they do it to make a play. They do not fight each other.
Fighting in hockey NEVER happens in important games. It happens in regular season games and happens a lot of times when 2 goon assholes like the guy that just got hurt feel the need to fight just for the sake of fighting. Honestly what is the purpose of those fights?
The only time I see a reason to fight is when some goon is taking runs at your stars and you have a guy go stand up for them but all too often it seems like guys want to fight guys after good clean hits. Also when 2 idiots fight just to fight they should be tossed from the game

NJD, it seems like every time I watch a game that features the Eagles, the announcers go out of their way to praise Dawkins. I sense you may be a Giants fan but anywho...
I agree that the absence of fighting in important games speaks volumes. Don't mistake me for that neanderthal clown Don Cherry . Nothing tarnishes hockey more than when two goons fight, sit for 5, jaw at each other while in the p boxes, then scrap again the next time they're on the ice. That's not sport. I'm not opposed to restricting fighting in some way that makes sense.
I guess I'm just annoyed at crap like when a receiver catches a 17 yard pass across the middle for a first down in field goal range yet also gets his head taken off on the play. He could get up the next second, put his helmet back on, and and be walking perfectly healthy back to the huddle while the hitter is performing some ritual pain dance where he got hit. Its absurd. He doesn't care one bit about the actual play, just that he jacked some dude up. I know its apples and oranges but if the subject is eliminating or at least reforming one aspect of a game that looks stupid, that would seem to be a parallell.

But in hockey you have hard clean hits and you have that in football. Part of the game. The guy dancing after the hit is a bit much and I see your point but I dont think that 2 goons fighting is part of the game (I think that you dont either )
If a guy like Dawkins hit a QB and the Lineman didnt like it and squared off and fought him then I would see your point I guess. It would be ridiculous.

Fighting will never be taken out of hockey, I hope. If it does, it will
be a sad day for hockey fans (most). Nothing wrong with the 2 tough
guys going at it to set a tone to the game. Having a tough guy in your
lineup keeps the other team honest, you go after our guy, I'll go after
yours. Hockey needs fighting in it, take it out and watch the stickwork
go up...book it. Then they will talk about playing with plastic hockey
sticks, brother.
The game is so soft now, just the other night I saw a interference call
for 5:00, thats a joke. The game has changed so much just in the last
few years, give me back some of the games in the early to mid 90's. I'm
not old enough to remember the games in the 80's, but I know some of
you sure do miss those days where hockey players were tough.

People that just watch hockey for the fights are not real fans they are dolts. There is never fighting in the Finals, those games seem to be pretty good every year
