First of all, 3 years doesn't make a career, and there's no way to know what the future holds in store. I'm sure alot of people in Calgary thought Joe Nieuwendyk was going to score 50+ goals every year and, guess what? The player he got traded for has had a much better career...
Second, a "great" player makes everyone around him better. Patrick Marleau and Jonathan Cheechoo have Joe Thornton. John Leclair and Mikael Renberg had Eric Lindros. How many players benefitted from playing alongside Gretzky, Lemieux, or even Yzerman? Who has Crosby made better? Miroslav Satan? Pascal Dupuis?
I'm not saying he's not an excellent player, but to call him "great" after only 4 seasons is a little ridiculous. He's put up good numbers, just like Yashin, just like Gilmour, just like Eric Staal, but don't put him in the Hall Of Fame just yet, or say things like "He reminds me of Gretzky..."
