Devils if you look at their roster - have a good team.
Elias and Kovalchuk are elite players. Jacques Lemaire is an elite coach coaching his last season. Martin Brodeur is an elite goalie and winding down the last year or two or three of his career.
This team has gotten back to playing tight close scoring defensive games every night. They're listening to the coach and buying in and shows on the ice between the discipline and effort levels. The basic eye looks and sees the devils record and just assume they are brutal. The bookies know this and will keep setting tem at +140 or high virtually every where on the road.
Lets not forget this is a team who was a perennial power house for YEARS. A team that was expected to contend for a division crown. The talents there - and the confidence is back.
I think they will go over .500 second half of the season - with alot of value.
whenever i watch 17 play he doesnt play the same as he use too. i just think he played totally different in the ATL offense. I agree devils have always been a solid team but its been because of there solid goaltending ( which is starting to come on ) but there defense this year lacks alot.

First of all, I don't believe in Devils and Calgary, fck no... Wake up. They won some games before All-Star break and so what? Each team wins sometimes, you can't lose all games can you. After the break they will start losing again. Both Brodeur and Kipper aren't good at all, of course they will have a few decent games but it's not enough.
Secondly, Stanley Cup Finals.. What I said before playoffs:
2008/09 - Detroit or Chicago vs Pittsburgh or Philly 2009/10 - Chicago vs Pittsburgh or Philly 2010/11 - at this spot I am saying Vancouver vs Pittsburgh or Philly
Yes, both teams from Pennsylvania have been the best squads in the Eastern Conference for 3 years.. 1st round in 2009 playoffs between them was the early Eastern Conference Final. Pens have better roster now than they had last year but they must get healthy. Marc-Andre Fleury is one of few outstanding goalies in the leauge.
Looking at West, Canucks seem to be the obvious pick but you never know what will happen during next months. In "Canucks are sick" thread somebody wrote that they didn't face any adversity this year and I agree.. I think that Stars can be a threat to them.. They are young and hungry plus they have some valuable veterans like Brad Richards, Breden Morrow or Jamie Langenbrunner. And this ridiculous Finnish goalie is just kicking asses.

Agree with most of what you said orngcrush. Brodeurs time is done in this changing NHL, his style flat out doesnt work anymore. Nearly everytime he starts I take the over lol....
Back to the topic...my prediction has always been Philly out of the East and Vancouver out of the West. IMO though the EAST anything can happen whereas the West I do see Vancovuer getting out of it this year, last year they faced powerhouse Chicago or I'm very sure they could of handled San jose like Chicago did.
Also your comment about the Stars...I just dont see it, obviously they have talent, but they just got smashed by Vancouver in Vancouver 7-1 with Lehtonen starting. Obviously its regular season and 1 game but this stands out to me. I dont see Dallas doing it.

i mean we have the best depth in the league i just think bob needs to alittle bit more confidence. not trying to be picky but when we go into the post season i just want the goaltending to be there and not have to rely on scoring.

"I'm seeing positives, there's no doubt. There's certain guys that they have to play better. They have to play better. It's that simple. You've got to touch the puck in a game. You've got to make a play in a game. And I'm talking about a few guys. If we get these guys going, we'll be OK."
New Jersey's record under Lemaire dropped to 7-8-1 with the loss at Detroit. That record was once 1-7-0. Devils are 6-1-1 in their last 8. Jacques Lemaire is making a difference - there is no doubt about it.
So you think Matrin Brodeur who posted a 45 wins last season with a 2.24 GAA and a .916 SV% just turned into a siv over night? He was hurt majority of the first half of the season and is finally becoming healthy. Hes not going to post an .894 SV% all season i can gauruntee you that.

If the NHL decide's it's 'Vancouver's year, they win the cup..... But if you ask me, I think all the pieces are in place for Flyer's to finally get their Cup.... Maybe next year for the Canucks.......
It has all been decided 4 months ago when the season started... Doesn't anyone realize this yet....????????
Hope you're being sarcastic and if you aren't it would suck for you wathcing hockey with this mentality.
This isnt the NBA where the refs have a huge impact on the game.
You can't fix 5 on 5 play in NHL with no whistles or penalty calls for 4-5mins of pure hockey.

Some of these are alright but lol @ all the vancouver stuff.
They are not THAT good, luango is not the best, he'll shit his pants again.
Funny how everyone loves philly now, why diden't they love them last year? they actually had a better team last year but people can't see it. just see points in the standings.
had philly 50-1 last year, this year they overrated and no value.
Its so easy for everyone to pencil in #1 vs #1, this is hockey, its all lucky bounces and #1 teams go down every year.
If the Devils played Boston right now in the playoffs, I doubt they'd be even huge faves. last place vs division winner lol
regular season means nothing in the nhl.

I think you're way off here.
Vancouver is a very good team this year and theres other factors that will help them as well.
What is the reason Vancouver didnt get out of the West last year? The answer is: CHICAGO.
This year Chicago has gotten worse and is less of a threat.I think you may agree Vancouver would of gotten by San Jose much like Chicago did in the Western Conference finals.
So to this year behind Vancouver is Dallas, RedWings, nashville and Anaheim and SJ clinging onto a playoff berth. I dont see Dallas doing anything, Vancouver also jut smashed them at home 7-1 with Lehtonen starting
Im not basing this on regular season standings either, Vancouver has playoff experience as well.
Onto Philly, I'm not sure how theyve gotten much worse, theyve gained playoff experience as well, goaltending is an issue. The East can go any which way. I understand hockey a best 4 of 7 series there is going to be a lot of bounces and luck involved.
and to say Boston vs Devils in a playoff series would be close is laughable. Boston would win that series 4-0 or 4-1 and I'd be willing to bet a large amount on 4-1 or better.

Roberto Luongo vs. Dallas
Regular Season: 12-4-0-2 Playoffs 4-3 Total 16-7-0-2 This season: 3-0 2.27 .922 sv%
Dallas is effin good this year, I agree. I actually live in Dallas - goto almost every home game. But they couldn't beat Vancouver in a 7 game series on the road. They might win a few - hell they might take it to 7 and be tied going into the third. but in the end Vancouvers core has been doing this for years now Vancouver is finally ready to win.
