Savard assisted on only six from his 36 goals last season
I know thats in the Star today, but is that right?? I heard over the past week it was like 65% of his goals, Radio I think I heard it. Really don't care, just wondering who is right on the matter. Might influence some fantasy peoples.

With all due respect, this statement is quite false.
Toskala played well when splitting time with Nabokov. There was no proof whatsoever that Vesa could start 65-70 games in a season. Although, for the record, his first year with Toronto resulted in 33 wins and a 2.74 GAA.
As for Raycroft, I REALLY have to disagree with you here. He had his rookie of the year campaign in 2003-04. He was injured for the ENTIRE following season. He returned in 2005-06 to post an 8-19, 3.71 GAA, .879 save % season. THEN he went to the Leafs. IMO, going to Toronto definitely did NOT kill his career.
Well said weebs. Was scratching my head with Vesa being a stud as well. Reliable backup perhaps and I'm being generous but a stud? Not so sure.

Those numbers could be attributed to injury, having an entire year off.
I could list 20+ guys who came to Toronto and laid an egg here over the past 10 year.
Toskala would be fine again outside of Toronto. The Monster is going to be another victim...unless you are Patrick Roy you will not put up great numbers in TO.

I suppose if we are going to apply the philosophy of Kessel being good mainly because he played in a good organization and had a good line, the same should be applied to Toskala's great W-L record with the Sharks because of the Sharks' good defensive approach. Toronto didn't kill his career - he did. Nothing exhibits my point more concretely than his shootout idiocy. I mean with this guy in net and the Leafs are in OT, one can justifiably expect an impending shootout loss.

My Bruins holding the Buds 1st Rd pick the next two years....
As for Kessel, as long as he PLAYS, he will contribute offensively...I have no doubt about that, but I'm beginning to question his durability...just not sure he'll be a consistent full-time player down the road.

Can't think of the last time a player came to Toronto and actually prospered and got better.
MLB...Doug Gilmour and Curtis Joseph come to mind as players that came to Toronto and actually made an impact although I don't know if they both prospered and got better, ,
Weebs.... things haven't chaged with this organization in the 40 years I followed and rooted for them. Different owners, managers, coaches and players but the same old mentality and results... I've been, still am and will always be a Leafs fan but you gotta call a spade a spade ... Toronto definitely kills careers, the proof is in the pudding
Fuck, the Leafs have a shit load of money, playing in a BIG city with the BEST fans in the NHL (second to none) and they cannot or they just do not want to ice a winning team ... It's sickening don't ya think?

You're preaching to the choir, sir. I cheer for the Leafs, Jays, Raptors, Argos and Bills.

I would say Cujo had better years outside of Toronto. Dougie Gilmour was a player who embraced playing in Toronto....something very hard to do with the way the fans and media are. He is definitely a good example though.
For a long period, Toronto kept going after grizzled vets well past their primes, but paying prime dollars.
They have not drafted well at all, etc.
The problem is the fans and media IMO. Toronto will eat you alive if you don't perform. And believe me....the players feel that.
And now when you have a coach who likes to call players out to the Toronto media, no good can come of it.

as far as savard setting up only 6 of kessel's goals, it is true. Look, the fact is that we cannot evaluate a trade that is only a few months old. We need at least a few years to figure out who won this trade. Kessel hasn't played one game yet and everyone is writing him off. He is only 21. Im sorry but when you are that age you are too young to be labelled "injury prone". The guy could still have 15 solid years in him, you have no idea. Fred Taylor is an example that comes to mind. The guy got injured seemingly every season his first few years and was labelled soft. Now the guys is well into his 30's and had himself a great career. We simply do not know yet how this trade will work out.

I just went through the first 20 games last year, and Savard had 11 assists for Kessal, and looks like most Savard goals were assisted by Kessal too. That 6 number is wrong, no idea where the Star got that from??? I checked out a leaf board, and a bunch of people were stating its just an error by the star, they were missing a "2" in front of the 6.
I'm no leafs fan, but think he is a solid pick up, very good sniper, when they get him a real center he has potential to be a 40 goal guy again. But again, as for most snipers he needs a good center that can feed him, and create space for him.

Isn't Ron Wilson supposed to be a defensive minded coach? Kessel had problems here in Boston with Julien even though he improved defensively every year but just did not put the extra effort in. He is a very talented player who doesn't put in the extra off ice work to make himself better. I had no problem with him here in Boston, I really wanted the B's to keep him but alot of stuff was written when he got traded that rubbed me the wrong way. I don't think he has the mental makeup to deal with the fans and media in Toronto. Maybe he is just young and immature . He has tremendous talent and if he works a little harder he can succeed in Toronto.

I love Kessel and still do even though he's with the Leafs now. But IMO I don't think he's worth that kinda $$$ but i hope he continues to shine in TO.
