How can you make NHL picks already?

The NHL just started, but I see you guys picking winners and totals already. As I know, there's no team that played more than three games, so how much information is available on the current season in order to make knowledgeable picks?

Did you know they held preseason this year.

Yes signguy213, I know they played preseason games but aren't the preseason games some kind of "warminbg up" or practice games? Do they count for anything?

Its is warmup,,,,But you dont wait til week 6 to start betting the Nfl do you?

I'll wait for every team to play 5-6 games.
But, I think you, in US, have much more information on teams players, shape than I have. I'm just using the general statistics (gs, ga, O/U).
So you can make knowleadgeable picks, but I prefer to wait a few more games.

And how come you don't bet on european hockey leagues?
Some of them seem more predictable than the NHL.

You're right about NFL, I think there's nobody who's waiting week 7 to bet.

But I am not betting on NFL, I don't know much about football and I sometimes toss a coin to pick "winners" for football games. I think it's a nice sport to watch but difficult to bet on it. And, besides, for me, as a european, "football" means soccer.

On european soccer leagues or Canadian or Major Soccer Leagues I don't bet before round 7 and on the last 2-3 games. But there are still remaining 20-30 rounds to bet on.

Same here, I don't start laying the cash till each team has played 5 games, unless something really stands out like taking the Sharks in regulation tonight or maybe the -1.5 for a nice dog payoff

Yet, the over / under might be predictable using last year's table and Poisson distribution.
The Poisson distribution wotks just fine for european hockey leagues.

low unit wage at the beginning as usual, then when you feel comfortable go and hammer it!

I always go low a the beginning of the season, so I really don't care about my W/L record.  If I could break even the first month I'll be happy.  But this 1st month is just a warm up for the heart of the season from November to March.  That's where I usually shine best
 
As far as pre-season stats go, there are many teams who's pre-season record isn't matching their start.
 
Rangers - 1-5 pre-season - 3-0 regular season
Boston - 3-5 pre-season, 1-0 regular season
Toronto - 2-7 pre-season, 1-0 regular season
Washington - 5-2 pre-season, 0-1 regular season
Atlanta 1-5 - pre-season, 1-0 regular season
 
Many more examples out there.
 
But it all still very early

just look at the depth charts, form your own opinions on the teams that you think are overrated and underrated and bet accordingly
 
if i were able to bet i would bet the devils, bruins and oilers every game for a while

I agree with the Devils and Oilers, but not the Bruins.  I would go with Carolina right now.

I would also be betting against teams that i feel are overrated like Pitt, Philly, TB and Calgary

snuke in my post before the year i had the Canes as well in that category.
 
they gagged away a spot last year but should be good enough to sneak in this year and maybe win that division

using my system I am doing just fine using last years stats for now.

I have been very careful in placing bets but my posting record is  4-0
and  my top 4 picks (which I like to bet) are 10-2 over last 3 nights.

thats why hockey is great. its so much of a team sport that a few personnel changes from year to year or day to day doesn't  account  for a whole lot. and goalies  are  pretty consistent.

Edm. is favored and I really think the line should be closer to even
so I may be missing something using last years data.
