I'm not pleased about how Sundin went about things, but the guy was/is a great player and didn't have a single winger to play with. Jonas Hoglund anybody? If someone drops $10 million in my lap, I'm taking it, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Not to mention the fact that he wants to win a cup. So what was motivating him to stay in Toronto?

Mogilny was arguably the best player he played with since SAKIC with the Nords.

Some guy came on the FAN 590 today and tried to insist that if Sundin was so great, he would've made other wingers great too. He tried to tell Mike Hogan that Sundin was a good player, but not a great player. To which Hogan mentioned that Mats was only the leading scorer for the Leafs for 12 out of 13 years. The guy said that it was easy to be the Leafs leading scorer and that anyone could do it. Right buddy...so why didn't they for the other 12 years?

I went to the Leafs/Panthers game when McCabe returned. They did a little video tribute and the cheers nicely out-weighed the boos. They did a tribute to Belak earlier in the year too. I will be quite outraged if they don't do something for Sundin. I'm just glad that I won't be around to hear the stupid and/or drunken fans boo him every time he touches the puck.

It's gonna be a very interesting evening, and a ratings bonanza for CBC, that's for sure.

If Toronto has any class at all they will give him a standing O. I realize he screwed the Leafs over by not waiving his no trade last season but the guy bled Blue and White and thought he could help them make the playoffs still. He was an incredible captain for the Leafs and hopefully will be treated as such tomorrow. I know he's admitted to being nervous about the reception he may receive. Been waiting on this game for a long time, Line Opened Canucks -150, love the Nucks behind a big game from Mats and the now finding his stride Luongo. With all the termoil in Montreal the Nucks may just sweep this Canadian swing.

sundin should of taken a trade last year. why didn't he. his reason was he didn't want to be a rental player and that he wanted to retire a leaf. well he's full of ????. he's not gonna retire a leaf now and he became a rental player. if he truely loved the leafs then he would of done the best thing foe this franchise, which would of been to take a trade last year to get us some young players for the future.
 
i also beleive he is the reason the others would not waive the no-trade clauses. now look mcabe gone kaberle and kubina now say they will drop there's, why now and not last year.
 
i hope sundin gets booed and breaks a leg or something. i dont care what anyone says about sundin being so great for the leafs. the guy made millions to be a point a game player i dont care who he had on his line, he never made anyone that much better like other star players have.
 
look at sakic he made rookies turn into good hockey players (tanguay, drury, sundin).
 
forseberg did the same thing with hjeduk. these guys made other players better.
 
sundin was a point a game player no matter who he had even with mogilny.
 
sundin was no superstar, he was an average to good hockey player not a legend.

wow...umm...hejduk wasnt made by forseberg...hejduk is pure talent...drury is clutch and that has nothing to do with sackic....your logic is so out of whack its ridiculous...also the point of having a no trade clause in your contract is to NOT GET TRADED, regardless of what bitchy lil fans want

Ill be at the game tomorrow, ill watch the pre game skate and see how the crowd responds to Sundin.  Personally, I will cheer for him, he's the only player that can make Hoglund a 30 goal scorer.  We did not treat him right, we never gave him a solid winger to play with.  What he did last year was wrong but he carried this franchise for 13 years.

Agree the Canucks win for fun tomorrow BUT I will be BOOING as loud as I can as should most fans.. He SHOlUD have waived his no trade clause and taken a trade to help better this team. He has signed as a "RENTAL PLAYER" with Vancouver in every aspect after vividly stating that he wanted to stay with TO and not go to another team as such. That my freind is a hypocrite!

Agree with the above poster tha Sundin is/was no superstar, He was an average to good hockey player not a legend

Is he still a rental player after he resigns next year for 6-7 million? That argument is so played out and incorrect I no longer feel the need to clarify it. I hope he gets a hat trick and gives the fans the finger on his way off the ice. All you sour Leaf fans can enjoy watching the Canucks win the cup this year with Sundin playing a major role and then continue to talk about how he's not a superstar. vancouver will be out in the 1st round, sundin wont be back next year, well not with vancouver anyways. the twins will be in toronto next year so why would sundin be there next year when they will be bottom feeders.
 
Slavik222 hejduk is pure? then why was he a 4th rounder in the draft. here are some stats for you, before hejduk came to the nhl.
 
 
those numbers don't look like a pure scorer, forsberg made him the player he turned out to be, which was a star with forsberg and a good player without forsberg.
 
drury is clutch? if he didnt have sakic for his 1st 4 seasons he wouldn't have turned out the way he has.

seriously...forsberg and sakic made them? sure they might have had better stats while having a premier center on their line...but made them? ridiculous
