does anyone here actually do this full-time?  as in, this pays their bills, and they do not live with their parents?
 
i'd love to hear from ya.  this is my plan, but it seems like it'll take a loong time.  :)

Assuming you have found a strategy that turns a consistent long term profit:

You will have to start out with a large bankroll if you want to make decent money. Realistically, you need at least $5,000 to gamble with, so you can comfortably make $200 wagers and not be too affected by short term bad runs.

My advice is don't even think about it. Keep some money in a gambling account, make small bets you don't have to sweat, and have fun. Gambling can become very distressing even when you are turning a profit if you are worried about paying the bills.

i'm just starting out, trying to find my "systems."  I've done well this week so far, but I can hardly call it "expected results."  13-7, and got lucky last night w/ 7-0.  however, i know there will be weeks when I'm losing.
 
that said, I've started a bankroll of $100, and make $2 bets per game.  sometimes i'll put $4.
 
If I can consistently acheive 65% month after month, I'll put real $$ in.
 
Bird, do you do this full time?

If you're making seven bets in one night it will be impossible to turn a profit in the long run. Maybe that was unusual for you, but still, that's way too many. There are no more than 1 or 2 games on a given night that offer really solid opportunities. And there are plenty of nights where no games offer value.

ahaha I donno. When I lose a bet, I get mad lol. Imagine going a week without a win and then your bills come at the end of the month and you can't pay them! Atleast with a real job you know you will get paid weekly lol

I win at a great rate and have for the last 3 years, but there is no way you could do this for a living.  You could if you had a ton of money, like you won 10 million dollars and wanted to bet $5000/game for the rest of your life.  Otherwise, you WILL hit terrible runs and you'll hate yourself and your life.  Just bet at a low limit and if you win be happy having some extra spending money but dont take it past that

i think if i'm very disciplined w/ my money management, I can work with the ups and downs.  that's my intention,anyway.

Never understood how anyone could think of that realistically. Yeah, sure , some guys are pro cappers and spend their time in Vegas playing the market but it can't be more than a small minority .

Recreational playing is the way to go. How can you call it a job if the money is not guaranteed assuming you've understood that hitting 60% right now does not mean 60% all the time.

Start low and small and build manage your money in a consistent manner. If you learn it this way, it might help you out later on when you get more confident and wanna lay more.

Although, it's interesting to see the different philosophies when it comes to gambling for a purpose like paying bills.

this may help you to understand more.  i hate working, for a living.  :)

there are no guarantees, i get that.  but i also know that i can get a 50% win rate by simply fipping a coin.  if i apply the insight that i have to this, I'm hoping to acheive higher.

sure, i'll go slow at first, but i'll always lay 2% of my bank roll.  which means that if i ever get to having $50k in the bank, i can make $1000 bets.

i would expect that less than 2% of the population can do this, as 2% of the world's population owns 97% of the wealth.  however, i'm just curiuos to know of anyone making good coin off this.  even consistently netting over $1000 a month would be cool.

And, also wanted to point out real quick that netting over 4000$ in a month for example,  has to be asked relative to how it's being done.

If I told you yeah, 4000$ net profit in the last two months but managed to win that amount by going all in a couple of times with an initial deposit of 1300$ and laying money on odds juiced like crazy.Is that a good indication that it could be done consistently? All depends on your relationship with money, risk, and outcome desired.

Just wondering, when you refer to "system", are you planning to cap games normally based on your gut feeling without ever actually adopting a system?

If you were looking for something more specific, go take a look at the System & Strategy section of the forum where two NHL systems are being tracked right now.

i dream all the time.....but the nerves alone make it something unnatural. i think we all go on our respective runs good and bad, but the consistency you need to go 60% is hard to accomplish when sports seasons end and new ones begin. when hockey ended last year i was lost......started in bases and it took months to make any headway....and then i still didnt kill any books until i noticed a trend with the pirates games going over and over and over....only to lose that trend when they traded jason bay and nady. if hockey lasted all year i would strongly consider doing this full time......but it ends in the spring...

Its like anything --- what kind of lifestyle are you have or want?  I could do this full-time if I was happy in a crummy apartment, driving an average vehicle, and not traveling very much.
 
Only way to find out is to try it. Quit your job - because they only way you find out is by trying it full time and study your plays.
 
If you have a woman -- dump her -- she won't be happy with your constant study wagers and then spending the evenings watching all the games.
 
I think you should go full-time and start a thread and see what happens. C'mon what kinda life is lived wondering what if?

Nolan - I sense some sarcasm in your post above. Am I mis-interpreting? Cause I think there's a way to lead a balanced life where gambling on a coupe of hockey game each evening doesn't take over your whole life. You're probably right about the "what if" comment but no need to jeopardize everything else to try winning a couple of bucks based on your NHL knowledge.

I actually just started about 2 weeks ago. Put 400$ into a sportsbook and now I have $4500. At the begining, my regular bets were 20$ and big bets were 50$, now my regular is 100-200$ and big can be anywhere from 500-1000$. I've made a profit everyday except for 2 days since I started. In the begining I just though I could make a couple of hundred dollars to help save up for a car, but I never knew I could do this good. If you don't believe me, that's up to you. I don't post all my plays because I do alot of live betting (actually where I've made half my money), but if you look at threads that I have made, I've won a lot more than I've lost. I don't use any system though, I just try to bet smart. Get 2-4 great picks that I can count on at least 75% to hit and unload on those instead of betting smaller amounts on say 10 games. If I have stronger opinions on other games I'll put them in a parlay or something.
