No way in hell they're going to pick Harrell #1 overall, Andre Ware anyone???
Every time I see Andre Ware, I start flipping my lid on how easy he had it with the Lions.
I forget what his signing bonus was, I think $5 million (which is a joke nowadays) for a # 1 pick and I think he made $1 million annually for sitting on the bench and watching for what ? 5 years and then started late in the last year of his contract and didn't do a damn thing after that except go to the CFL where he played for Toronto and did nothing then retired to be a commentator !
Talk about a waste of a draft pick !!! What a joke, then again so is following the lie Downs after Barry retired.

I have a friend that works at the Lions Training Center. Just asked him this exact same question last night. His response was: " I don't know, They can't afford to pay any more 1st rounders, they want to get rid of alot of coaches and recruiters but can't afford to pay their contracts off, and pay for new ones, same thing goes for players." With that being said, i don't see them taking any QB's, and trading off most of their higher picks for later picks, or money.
You do bring up an excellent point.
They've wasted so much money over the years signing # 1 picks that they are on the hook for a lot of money for this foreseeable future and they still owe Matt Millen something like $5 million and they're just at the point where they're tapped.
You can go back to Charles Rogers, 2 years & out, all kinds of scenarios like this where the top draft picks are not even in the league anymore and it hasn't even been 7 years. I can't remember most of the scenarios without doing research, which if I did I'd be sick and it's not even something I should care about.
The bottom line is they have to start from the top, they've taken the interim tag off the GM and the season is not even over !
They don't want to go anywhere, because they can't afford to. The last GM they had that had any success was in the lane nude Wayne Fonts era, when they drafted guys like Chris Spielman, Lomas Brown, Buba Baker, Doug English and the likes of those guys who were around for over 10 years and were happy to be here with reasonably productive people around them. Many defensive guys I can't remember now, for the life of me but it held them in games.
Without football management, don't get too worked up over what the Lions will ever do in the coming years out until 2012.

For you newbies to the Sports World......THE LIONS NEEDS ARE GREATER ON DEFENSE AND O LINE THAN AT QB.
One reason Sam Brafford will not be the first pick......cause the Lions have the first pick....and they are not going to be drafting a QB.......Brafford, Stafford, or any of the other mediocre QB's entering this draft will not be the Lions 1st pick.

Really, the smart thing to do (so you know the Lions won't do it), would be to trade down for multiple picks, since the Lions don't know what to do with a good pick anyway.
One guy, or even two, in the 1st round is not gonna fix this franchise.
And get yourself a real coach, not somebody that hires their son in law. I'd back up the dump truck full of cash for Cower, he ran Steel Town to victory, let him try the Motor City!
GL and Merry Xmas, Lions fans, from this pathetic 49er fan (and yes, Alex Smith is available............for a 12-pack of Coors Light)

The Lions will draft Tebow
THEN make him a wide reciever

They should look into drafting Jesus if he declares, If not they will then depend on Stafford if he declares, and if not him , maybe they should look for goverment help

Someone should really hand Bradford a copy of the Detroit News then AMD..........i find it hard to believe he knows they want him, and is still gonna declare.

For all the people in this thread that said a QB or WR, send your resume to the Lions as a GM, because that's the type of shortsighted thinking they like. They might actually hire you considering their track record of recent GMs.
The Lions are lacking on both offensive and defensive line big time, and that should be addressed first and foremost. No need to waste a ton of money on a QB, especially any of these guys coming out.

hey guys, ok i have a little bit of insight on this as i live in detroit, and i played in high school with 2 lions and know others on this team and in front office...
i pray to god they dont take a QB, they have their franchise QB right under their noses and they dont even fuckn know it... DREW STANTON. this kid is a warrior just like tebow, but he can pass way better. if he wouldve decided to go to an SEC school, wed be talking about him EVEN BETTER because of his arm...

now that being said, the lions NEED to trade down, however i just dont think anyone will fall in love with a guy that much to offer us good value to jump up... we'll pray for someone to have an outstanding combine. id love to see them trade down and get... Micheal Oher(LT Ole Miss), Taylor Mays(FS USC), Vontae Davis(CB Illinois), Duke Robinson(G/T Oklahoma), Malcom Jenkins(CB Ohio State), George Selvie(DE USF), Brian Cushing (OLB USC), Alphonso Smith(CB Wake),
ANY combination of these 3 with their first 3 picks would be awesome. they DO NOT NEED A QB. if you put a decent offensive line around stanton, kevin smith, and calvin johnson, your offense will be young and good.
now their defense... they need an entire secondary, an entire linebacking core, and... well... a fucking entire d-line fuck it they need seriously 11 more starters on defense. oh my god, ive seriously never seen a team not have 1 defensive player that could start on any other team. maybe dwight smith, maybe ernie sims if he was taller...
i played in high school with stanton, so maybe im a homer, but i really dont see it that way. the guy is an absolute stud, and plays with his head and heart more than his arm/legs, which is saying alot because he has a hell of a set of legs and a cannon arm. i really do think if you give him a shot, he will save this team. i could be wrong, but look what he did at state with an absolute rag-tag offensive line, and decent recievers(ehh emm... the lions)...
well see and i hope they do build on the lines and the secondary...
