Tebow IMO isn't an NFL type quarterback. Just like most Florida quarterbacks. Product of the system. If Harrell declares, they have to take him...Bradford isn't ready right now. If none of them declare, then I would look at trading down.
I agree. I'm a big fan of Tebow, he's a SOB in the college ranks but he has such an unconventional style....his footwork is pathetic. His size and ability to run has obviously made him what he is in college but what happens when he faces a NFL defense that has equally the size and speed? He has raw talent, but he would be a work in progress in the NFL. He reminds me of Vince Young. If I had to chose between Stafford, Tebow or Harrell, I would take Stafford because he plays under center and they run more of a pro set offense. He's also been successful against solid SEC D's. Harrell doesn't play under center, I'm not sure that he's even taken a 5 step drop in his college career for Christs sake....they run a gimmick offense against weak defensive teams in the Big 12 which makes it hard to determine how well he'd do against a solid NFL defense. If the Lions thought they needed a QB, I would wait another year and try to pick up the likes of Colt McCoy....he will have a successful NFL career.

Trading down 1st pick overall is extremely difficult in NFL. Unless there's a guy that somebody really wants, it's just not going to happen. Mia tried hard as hell to trade down last yr but was unsuccessful. though Long has been very successful so far.
No way in hell they're going to pick Harrell #1 overall, Andre Ware anyone???

i say ray maualuga. this kid is nasty and the lions need all the help they can get on defense
This is exactly who they should pick as their number one draft pick. But if they do it right they will have traded down the list from the #1 pick to multiply the number of picks in the draft. They absolutely do not need to draft another WR and certainly not a QB. Let Culpepper get his ass raped while they build their O & D Lines. Their draft and free agent signings should be concentrated on the lines and there will be many opportunities to bring in a later round QB and WR, if not in the following years. They are not Atlanta, in fact they are way worse than Atlanta was last year. They are purely pathetic and need to be blown up other than Calvin Johnson and possibly Ernie Simms.
I am not a Lions fan at all, as you can see by my name, but I live right in Lions country right here near Detroit. They are bad, plain and simple and getting worse. I think that their bigger problem is that they are probably going to hire another shitty GM & Coach and not build this right again. Rumor has it that Matt Millen is still on the payroll as a consultant! That's how ridiculous this organization is. Ford Sr. needs to step aside and let real football people take over and perhaps I won't be subjected to my retarded friends who want to watch this awful team get taken behind the woodshed every weekend to the very end. I know my Browns aren't good, especially this year, but when they are getting beat I will change the channel to watch a different game that may be better football. But these Rubes that are Lions fans continue to dress from head to toe in honolulu blue and silver to see their team get completely dismantled each and every weekend. I would be fine watching them play if they had some sort of a semblance of a team.
And for all of you calling for them to draft a QB as their #1 citing Matt Ryan, don't forget the litany of Lions QB's drafted that went nowhere because they thought they could just try and outscore people. Where did that get them? 1 playoff win in 50+ years. Nice going. Remember the Joey Harrington experiment? How did that go? There are many other picks that could be cited as well.
Until this team decides to care what they put on the field starting from the top, the draft is the least of their worries. If they can get someone like Scott Pioli from the Pats (I know he probably won't leave), they have half of a chance. Perhaps they can get Robert Kraft to buy the team outright and they can share information???
Bottom line, they suck, and if they do what you guys are talking about drafting QB's as first overall, they will continue to suck.

I think drafting a QB in the first round is a HUGE risk because there's so much uncertainty with the product transitioning from a slower game in college to a faster game in the NFL. QB busts in the NFL is worse at QB than any other position. Look at the product of NFL QB's in the league today....it's disgusting. One could probably name no more than 5 QB's they'd want to start on their team. A few of past 1st round QB selections from include...Jamarcus Russell, Vince Young, Tim Couch, David Carr, Alex Smith, Matt Leinart, Jason Campbell, JP Losman, Kyle Boller, Rex Grossman, Akili Smith, Byron Leftwich and Joey Harrington.
The best year for QB selections in recent years was in 2004 when Eli Manning, Philip Rivers and Ben Roethlisberger went in the first round. Other notables include Carson Palmer and Jay Cutler.
If I am the Lions GM, I am not drafting a QB in the first round of the upcoming draft. I would look to free agency or keep Kitna one more year and use my draft selections for defensive line picks or trade my first round to get more selections as the Washington Redskins did a few years ago.

if Bradford declares they have to take him first...
incidentally, what # is their other first round pick? they should use one of their other picks from the 1st-3rd round on an O-lineman, and use every other pick on defensive players...
with Bradford, CJ and Kevin Smith they would have an amazing nucleus of skill position players...
they need to call me... i'll make sure they don't botch this draft like they have all of their past drafts...

Trade em to cleveland for winslow & edwards & another pick, after watching them drop passes & hurt every other week i'm sure lions would welcome them.. that's right matt millen gone
Honestly i live in clev & have hated browns since movd back here 10+ yrs ago Panthers fan & Bucs since lived in both places
Need more than 1-2 players : Trade down & get as much help as can... need guys who can step in now & based upon prior draft gaffs

While Bradford has been more than impressive in his college career, I don't think he would last more than 2 years in the NFL as a starting QB. His liability is his physique...he's about 30-35 pounds undersized, he has the physique of a golfer.

i don't know about that... i mean the guy in your picture isn't exactly sculpted out of granite, but he's held up fairly well... and Bradford is still young... he seems to have the arm strength, and definitely is tall enough for an NFL QB...
i'm not a big fan of taking a QB first, or even first round... but in this case, the Lions are as desparate as you can get for a QB, and i think Bradford looks like the real deal...

The Lions are not in desperate need for a QB. They are in desperate need for a team. I truly believe and always will believe that a good team is built around the lines. You have a big strong O-Line to protect whatever QB you have and create holes for your RB's and you have an offense. If they had Culpepper with a stout O-Line they would be just fine. Look around the league and you will see that there are really only a handful of high level QB's and the rest are just serviceable. Give those serviceable QB's a decent line to protect them and they will be fine. Defense wins championships and if you don't build up your D-Line to put some pressure on the opposing team's QB and Linebackers to step up against the run you will get torched and it won't matter who you have at QB on your offense. Get defensive players that will stop the run and a scare the other team's QB and you will have a team.
I could only agree with a QB pick if they had a decent defense and/or there was someone that other teams would covet so much that they would trade for him. If that were the case it would be easy to trade down from #1 where they will likely be.
