Tony dungy is an overrated coach!!

APPLEST--heck no I'm not obsessed with him, believe me I bet against him more than I bet on him.  And I usually lost when I did.  But the guy is all class...and can coach...in my opinion anyway, and I'm no fan of his.  But he is what he is...don't hate 'em just cuz you're not a Colt fan.  You're entitled to your opinions...just be a bit more careful the way you express 'em.  GL MAN, I'm outta your thread!!!

Right. Dungy only basically built that franchise up to where it is now. All the peices that are/have been in place that has made the Colts so successful over the last few years has come under his watch. Dungy transformed and totally re-programmed that franchise from one that was used to losing and being mediocre at best, to one that expects to win every Sunday and is uaually the odds on choice to go to the super bowl every year.

Other than those things, he had nothing to do with the current success of the Colts.

The modern day Pittsburgh Steelers ARE Bill Cowher. His DNA and fingerprints are all over that team.

Tomlin is a Cowher desciple, and has adopted a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality as coach of the Steelers. This speaks volumes about what Cowher re-built in Pittsburgh. Tomlin runs the team pretty much the same way Cowher did, and is running the team with Cowher's players. Tomlin is Bill Cowher dipped in chocolate basically.

Other that having the Steelers in the playoffs almost every year, participating in 6 AFC championship games, winning super bowl #5, and setting the franchise up to win #6, he did nothing. Completely overrated.

NJ Devils   you dont know what the heck you are talking about...as far as one of his sons killing himself, does that  make him a bad dad?   Been there done that and a day doesnt go by when I dont think of my son.  As far as a person's character, ask the people around them about the influence(in this case, Tony Dungy) has had on their lives.

As far as the Super Bowl, TB won the year after he left with Jon Gruden and the Colts will win SB 44 the year after Dungy left.  All the Colts SB appearance have been in Miami.   

There is something to be said for karma.....an example would be how UConn and Jim Calhoun do when the regional finals are in Phoenix

What the Colts season shows is that the players win not coaches, the history of sports is loaded with this evidence.

Look at the Pats, the so-called defensive wizard didn't look so great when he lost his key defensive players.

Interesting that when the team with the most wins in a decade the 49ers head coach retired, Bill Walsh, Goerge S. took over and guided the 49ers to the single most dominating postseason in history, winning by 33.3 pts per game a record that still stands today.

The 49ers did it with Walsh and they did it without him !!

The Colts broke that record and under the same exact senerio, head coach retires and in-house coach guides the Colts to a more dominating postseason then the former head coach did.

What's the common denominator, it's the players !!

Micheal Jordon was right when he said at his hall-of-fame introdution speech that the "players win" sure the orginazations and the coaches  contribute but in the end it's the players who win titles.
