If you go to the ground and the ball hits the ground it is still a catch if they have their hands around the ball and have control....which Murphy did...it was not UNTIL HE WENT TO GET UP that he hit the ball out of his own hands with his knee.

A forward pass is complete when a receiver clearly possesses the pass and touches the ground with both feet inbounds while in possession of the ball.

Cappy I bet you have never stood ona football field if you had you would know that was a fucking TD......That was horrible it goes against the very nature of the game......Who wants to see a middle age white guy fucking up a PRO football game, just sad, I don't care who wins......But if you don't think that undermines the spirit of the game your are mistaken on your rules expertise and what the game is about period ......BOO on the NFL

Touchdown: When any part of the ball, legally in possession of a player inbounds, breaks the plane of the opponent’s goal line, provided it is not a touchback.

Possession: When a player controls the ball throughout the act of clearly touching both feet, or any other part of his body other than his hand(s), to the ground inbounds.

The receiver established possession since he established control of the ball throughout the act of him catching it and 2 feet touching the ground. The ball was in possession by the player in the endzone, his 2 feet hit the ground while retaining clear possession. The play is dead once his feet touch the ground, thus = Touchdown.

If the Raiders should lose this game by a small margin, one's got to think those thugs in Oaktown just may riot and turn over a few cars over the poor officiating.
 
But on the other hand, OAK should get more calls in the second half after the officials realize they blew it.
 
Calls tend to balance out that way.

I agree. That was by far the worst call I have ever seen. Talk about giving ammunition to the conspiracy theorists.

The sad thing is that 30% of this forum is convinced it was correct. Got to love the know it all vibe they give off while spouting bullshit. Ground cannot cause a fumble, he was down and then some, that was a man getting up without the ball to celebrate what was a done deal. I am pretty sure the damn refs arms were even up signaling TD before the ball came out!

Insane. And I have San Diego in a parlay on the moneyline!

Even in that replay he had control. The ball didn't come out till he was getting up!

And remember they did not call it a fumble they called it an incompletion. You want to go nuts and call it a fumble that is one thing but to say that pass was never completed is flat out disgustingly ludicrous. End of discussion.

Your comment is beyond stupid.  i have played plenty of football, but playing the game alone does not automatically mean you know all of the rules.  Donovan McNabb did not even know that NFL games can end in a tie last year - - I'm pretty sure he has "stood" on a football field.

The rule might stink, just like the tuck rule.  No matter how much you, me or the pope hates these rules, the correct call was made based on the rule.  If you don't like that call, get the rule changed.

He lost the ball when he hit the ground.  The rule is that he must keep posession throughout the ENTIRE play. The announcers didn't even know the rule. Read the rule book. It was not a completed ball.

If you believe he didn't lose control of the ball until he went to stand up, that is a different story. If that was the case, then it is complete.  Then, we are just arguing when the ball came out - - when he was hitting the ground, or when he was getting up.  However, people can bitch about me or the other "30%" or whatever, but you cannot have the ball touch the ground when falling to the ground when making a catch for it to be a complete pass.  in the end zone or anywhere.  whether i have ever played football or not.

The call was reviewed on video! whether or not the ground jarred the ball loose before or after possession is irrelevent! that part of the call is subjective and unable to overturn the original call.
 
nfl rule : "A forward pass is complete when a receiver clearly possesses the pass and touches the ground with both feet inbounds while in possession of the ball. "
 
the call was made, and the ref under the hood reversed the subjective part (the process of completing the reception) of the call which cannot be done on video replay.

i'd say the same thing if the original call was incomplete - unable to overrule the subjective part.
 
parallell to the old 'would he have landed inbounds if he was pushed' rule that could not be overturned by video

please stop the madness - - the announcers even corrected themselves now.  the call was correct.  please learn the rules.

Thats exactly what we are saying here, he didn't lose control until he was getting up.  So it was ruled a touchdown on the field, end of story.
