Matt Youmans of the Las Vegas Review-Journal wrote an interesting piece about onslaught of Colts action for this weekend's Super Bowl.
The story includes a quote from Jimmy Vaccaro, director of operations for Lucky's sportsbook, saying he thinks the line will close at Colts -7 by kickoff.
"I really think we're going to see a line that reaches 7 before the game. I didn't think that 48 hours ago, but I do now," Vaccaro told the Vegas paper Sunday night.
Youmans also writes that several sources told him "the most respected sports bettor in Las Vegas" wagered $200,000 on the Colts to win the game at a book on the Strip.
You can still grab the Colts at -5.5 (-110) at Betjamaica.com.
200 dimes on the Colts

Hmmm, Cjack ring a bell here? Almost this same exact thread claimed that Texas was the lock of the century and that all the Vegas big dogs were on them. What happened there?
you're comparing Ashton Grewal to CJack???

Everyone know that if your looking for winners check the L.V. Review Journal to see if they will tell you who 'the most respected sports bettor in Vegas' has wagered on.
I was thinking that P. Man would be the easy choice, but this is def. starting to look to good to be true. Ashton & the rest of the once a year bettors are on the Colts & no line move yet........?

Why are you guys giving Ashton such a hard time?

How many wagers you make in a year. If you are paying 7% more juice per wager at one point would it even matter if the off shore books took your money and ran?
Bro- the juice will kill you, ML is even worse. I agree there is some risk to the offshore books and so I am never leaving too much in there but I sure feel certain that the risk I take with the off shore books is much much less than the risk you take with being wrong and paying hefty juice, bet after bet.
Peace bro-
By the way, been offshore for 10 years now and have always, eventually :) gotten paid.

I'm not comparing Ashton Grewal to anybody, I'm just saying we all saw what happened the last time "big money" by the "most respected bettors in Vegas" came in on a team...

" the most respected bettor in Vegas " bets in vegas because he IS the most respected bettor IN vegas. A few points of vig that only bites on losers is worth looking at a line and having some real estate to visit on Monday 8th. Why you giving LemBanker such flack?

(1) The news report is meaningless for two reasons. First, as others have noted, there will be large bets on all propositions. Second, if the bettor was truly a sharp betting on NO, or affiliated with a book itself, he would want the newspaper to report a large bet on Indy, to move the line further in his favor. The books almost always make more money when the 'dog covers, as do the sharps.
(2) Reasonable minds could disagree as to whether it is more prudent to take worse odds at a more secure book (e.g. brick and mortar books in Vegas) or to opt for reduced juice at a book that, at least in theory, could disappear instantly on any given day (although I suspect that Pinnacle and Betfair do many times more volume than all books in Vegas combined). There are probably "sharp" bettors who choose both options depending on their personal needs and circumstances.
(3) Heaping ridicule upon persons with whom you disagree just makes you look "ridiculous" yourself (although whoever guarantees a particular result on any proposition does deserve a bit of ridicule, as we all know that anyone who can pick more than 55% correct on an ongoing basis is extremely rare).

ahhh... i get you now... CJack was someone who came out of nowhere to make that thread, so seemed like an unfair comparison... but i see what you are saying...
Crash... in my years using online books i never had too many problems getting money from offshore books, either... always got 5% juice on my straight bets, and only stopped using them this past year... i wouldn't expect anyone to take heed... just pointing out why the absolutism of someone's statements needed a light shined on them... to scoff at the idea that there are "sharps in Vegas" is a very disrespectful and ignorant statement from a very disrespectful and ignorant person, who has simply not been around long enough to have a grasp of what he is talking about... but some people are not capable of looking at things from more than one very simplistic perspective...

This is stupid. The Saints are going to win this game, hands down. 1st time Katrina magic or whatever you want to call it. Peyton already got his trophy, ok lets get on with it. A title for New Orleans means a lot more to their home city then if Indy wins another one. Do you think the NFL isn't aware of the money situation as well?
Just because some dumbass makes an ignorant and phony post about some "SHARP" laying 200,000 on the ML means nothing at all. For one it's rediculous to the fullest extend. And 2, I highly doubt Vegas would even accept that bet. And if they did accept it, then that means they don't think the Colts are a "LOCK" , or whatever you want to call it.
Go Saints.
If you are planning on betting the favorite for the SB -- getting a ML wager on first line release has a ton of value. Vegas does and will accept that amount on a ML because the theory of book making gladly supports it.
Sports gambling has been declining since the 90's and anyone that does not disagree is a fool. That's why in Vegas, what we called the sharps are now the wise guys. GG

do you really want to take your chances getting a TD or less with a team that will definitely lose the game?
