NFL MVP?

Peyton Manning or Brett Favre

I know i'll get flamed but I think the most valuable player to his team is Jay Cutler.

Well first THIS SEASON i would take Eli over Peyton. Yes i find that very hard to say, but Eli has keep this team rolling since last season. Giants most likely have the better team outside of the QB positions. While Peyton has done an outstanding job at leading this team, i feel they have dropped in performance a bit ( injuries happen to every team, its part of the game, and also since they have been on and near the top for awhile teams have spent more time concentrating on how to beat them, becasue those games are more meaningful in the playoff race) And without Peyton this team might be well off with out him ( certainly not where they are at right now but most likely not with anything less then 5 wins at this point since they do have a talented staff around him)  Eli, yea the Giants might be able to replace him and give someone else a chance at putting up some decent numbers,but he has done an outstanding job at fitting in with this team and creating wins and opportunities and he has kept this team rolling.

Now with Ryan, he is a rookie comming into the NFL taking over a leadership position with a team that previously won 4 games all year. As you saw last year this position truly needed to be filled for this team to show any light and look what he has done. While the MVP shouldn't go to the best player on the best team ( sometimes that is the case) i feel the MVP needs to goto a player that turns a team around. Someone that if he was taken out of the line up his presence would deflate an entire team. Both the Manning's have built their reputations up to have that privilege but Ryan is now showing that presence and earning this award. Look what the good running game did for ATL last year, Atl has also scored 50 more points to date ( with 12 games) then they did for all of 16 games last year. They gave up 410+ points last year and now they given up 240+ points... thats 170 less points with 4 games to play... looking at those numbers it looks like they will score more then 100+ points and give up less then 100 points from the previous year. To mean that means the Offensive has stepped up their game but limiting the other teams to stay on the field. Ryan has controlled these games very well in his first year and to me that is value, especially to build upon.

Not going to knock you becasue Cutler is a good player with a lot of potential, but he has 7 wins and 9 loses. Nothing too exciting about those numbers for a franchise that is use to winning. Yes the team wins and loses on his shoulders, but a 1 game all or nothing who would you rather have? Someone that you put the entire load on their shoulders when they have a less then .50% chance of winning? While he may be the MVP for his team, i find him a bit lower on the ranks for the league.

1. Drew Brees (might break the passing yards record)

2.  Kurt Warner  (leading the Cards to their 1st division title in 32 years)

3.  Clinton Portis (having a great season and keeping the Skins alive)

4.  Eli Manning (just wins games and doesn't make mistakes)

5.  Adrian Peterson  (depending on the finish to the year)

Hate to tell you but Brees has slim to no chance if the Saints miss the playoffs. Warner is right behind him in yards so if Brees breaks it by 40-50 yards it isnt going to win the award for him and clearly Saints playoff chances are slim to none as well. Also, how in the world can you put Portis ahead of AP?

Portis has had fewer attempts and has been injured.  Peterson also has had some fumbling issues this year.

No way on a few names-

Cutler no way

Brees no way (he and Warner will break that record, the difference is that Warner and the Cards are going to the playoffs, the Saints could have an overall losing record)

Manning (both) no way. Peyton has played some TERRIBLE games this year, he is 15th in QB rating with 7 behind in TD count, 12 INTs and 700 yds behind the leaders. The guy has it so easy, 4 sacks..how the hell do you have 4 sacks in this league? It isnt because he is mobile either..Manning (both of them) have great lines and good defenses.

That is 4 really bad games, the lone win was against a very bad team.

If Peyton gets the MVP with numbers like that, why even have the award?

Also if you watched the Colts on a consistent bases you would know that Peyton has been under CONSTANT pressure all year from the pass rush. He has only 4 sacks because he is always getting rid of the ball as fast as he can. He is the smartest qb in the league and he knows he has to get rid of it fast to have any chance. 

I will tell you this..

The Indy banged up line is better than the Cards line at full strength and the Colts have better numbers than the Cards and similar numbers compared to the Saints, yet Manning is WAY below both Warner and Brees.

So he is having to pass more than in previous seasons, that groups him with Brees and Warner, yet he isnt even close to the numbers of the other two. Manning has 30 less attempts than Brees and Warner yet has 700 less yards, averages 6.6 YPC vs 8.2 and 7.9 for Brees and Warner. He has 5 less TDs and MORE INTs than Brees and Warner and his completion ratio is well below the leaders.

Do you realize that Indy has played 4 playoff teams this year? That is it..4 playoff teams- (Chi/Minny, only one make it there, Tenn and NE and Pitt- NE might not make it).

Indy has played a soft schedule compared to previous years and they STILL could miss the playoffs.

No way does Manning deserve the MVP.

If Manning wins over Warner then the thing is rigged.

I am not saying it is Manning vs Warner, but if they consider him and shake off Warner then they are biased and arent looking at stats.

I dont see AP winning either, if anything they should give it to the OL for Tennessee, the whole group.

Manning has too many bad games this season..4 really bad games.

NO WAY Peyton Manning, I think there is at least 4 QBs that are ahead of him Kerry Collins, Eli, Favre, and Ryan.

So Most Valuable Player, remember my list above was not in any order, I was not putting DeAngelo above AP they were just my top candidate.  Valuable to me means to the team and DeAngelo is a huge reason Panthers are having success.

 - How do you get off saying players on teams that arent going to make the playoffs arent eligable??  I think your foolish to say a player cant be eligable if his team might barley miss the playoffs.  DeAngelo is the only player putting up points right now for the Panthers he is a huge reason for there success!  I dont think he is going to win I was just giving my top 5 canadadits.

Don't fade the Baltimore Ravens from that list sir.  9-4 if they beat Was, then Jax in the final game (even if they lose to Pit/Dal -- they'll be 10-6 and should make the playoffs)

I didn't know we were picking who sportswriters are picking or even who we thought was going to win I thought you wanted are opinions and arguments for our picks.  Just was listing who I personally thought should win and why, also debating against other picks.  I have nothing wrong with Peyton Manning just don't think he should even be in the top 10 in MVP discussion.
