Could you explain to me why you're betting a team with the spread AND the money line?

We already know if the Jets cover you lose both bets.
Result - Minus 10.5 units

If Miami loses by 1 or 2 you win your 5 units off the spread bet and give it right back on the money line bet. 
Result - Even

If Miami loses by 3 you push the spread bet but lose the money line bet.
Result - Minus 5 units

If Miami wins out right...
Result - Plus 12.5 units

So two of the outcomes will lose you money, 1 will result in a push and 1 will result in you winning.  If you just bet the entire 10 units on the spread you would have 1 scenario winning you money, 1 would push and 1 would lose.  Seems like the safer play to me.

Every week people come in and say they have the wildcat figured out and miami still manages to make it work. and btw, the wildcat is not their base offense, they run out of the wildcat like 10% of the time. if you listen to analysts they make it seem like thats the only way miami can run the ball.

.Estes my brother...whos opinion I respect...need some more insight on this dolphins pick !   I aim a die hard Miami fan, I WANT them to win...I just dont see it happening this week...Henne has not looked good at all...And the jets D has, not to mention Rex Ryans gameplan shutdown a Miami team last year which I believe was bettter with Pennington in....

Miamis D will keep them in the game for awhile, but cannot do it 4QTRs will no help from the OFF.

My book had NYJ -1  right now....and while heartbreaking thinkin of goin against my boys ( typically they're a no play ) that line is lookin really appetizing

you are assuming all the outcomes are of equal probability, which is not true. the odds that this game lands on 1 or 2 are far less than either Miami winning SU or Jets covering the 3. I think the split is the smart play... i will be doing the same. If i cant get 3 at a reasonable price, i will be going all moneyline.

TwistedMath. It seems you ask me this question at least once a week..Last time you ask me this I had Lsu ML and Lsu +3 and I won..So I'm 2-0 so far this year ..I think Miami wins is why I'm playing the moneyline

It just sounds to me like you're using the +3 as an insurance bet.  Like you said, the chances of it landing on the Dolphins losing by 1 or 2 isn't nearly as likely as them just winning out right.  Seems as if the spread bet isn't a very good proposition if you're betting the money line.  I'd either not bet it or just put the entire thing on the money line if I liked there chances of winning the game that much.
