One of the all time NFL greats (who never won a Superbowl)...his teams always had ugly, tough defenses...typical for covers' posters and posers not to mention him at all in his passing.
Same thing happened a few months ago with the passing of Herb Adderley...

I could write a book on why Marty was fired (many issues) down in San Diego...then Norv Turner who took over and destroyed the best talent in the NFL by ushering in an age of mediocrity.

guy won 8 of 11 games with the Skins after starting out 0-5. they were lean mean and tough
so why did he leave
when he joined the skins, snyder said schottenheimer would be the gm and coach, no question. it was the only reason he took the job.
after the year, snyder asked him to give up the gm role. can you believe it. so marty quit
the redskins were garbage for years after that, with snyder getting involved in everything.
you wonder if he'll get involved with rivera or not. my guess is he learned his lesson and will not. but that said...it was snyder who forced the surprising selection of haskins, completely against the will of the scouting team. so who knows, could happen again.

“Every year that I was there, we had a pretty good draft class, with a couple of exceptions,” Gruden said. "[Smith] was really good about listening to the coaches because the coaches also did evaluations. … When it came our time to pick, we’d always talk about the picks, where we’d like to go, what happens if [the player] is gone, and did all our scenarios.
And then [Snyder] would come in off his yacht and make the pick.”
