What is up my covers brothers?!? Not sure what sparked this late night thread
.....perhaps not positing last week to take the Lions +4.5 agains my GB packers, who I thought were going to win the game but were absolutely not going to cover by a touchdown. FWIW I took the Lions plus the points. But as many of you know, I had the Rams winning it all last year based on a futures bet and this year I doubled that amount and laid a little over 7 dimes on the GB Packers
That was a tough pill to swallow for sure, as the Packers under performed all year. They shouldn't have lost to the Giants, Commanders, or the Lions (first meeting). The offensive line was not healthy and the loss of Rashan Gary to an ACL injury significantly hurt the team. I had hope when they beat the Dolphins and smashed the Vikings, but knew the last week would be a battle. Worse, I knew if the Packers got in as the 7 seed, that they would have little chance against the 49ers.
Now, you might be thinking to yourself, why on earth would I listen to this guy who just torched 7K on the GB Packers when it comes to futures bets (valid questions). But when looking at overall bracket, each team and their respective odds, and the road to get to the SB, I cannot help but see value in the SF 49ers and I will explain why moving forward.
Why do we like the 49ers?
Well, for starters, this is the best defensive team in the league and they are healthy at the right time. We know the saying that defense wins championships. They have the best front four in the league. I cannot underscore how important the return of Javon Kinlaw is to this starting defensive line. The guy is 6'5 320 lbs and is an absolute menace who frees up Arik Armstead in the interior and also arguably the best defensive lineman this year in Nick Bosa who put up 18.5 sacks this season.
Defense wins championships?
Yes. If you look at this defense, it is loaded with talent. They have 3 guys going to the pro-bowl in Bosa, Fred Warner, and Talanoa Hufanga. If you look at the line, like I mentioned before, they are solid at every position. Arik Armstead and Kinlaw on the line, Dre Greenlaw and Aziz Al Shaair as the other linebackers (Greenlaw was a massive snub) and Charvarious and Jimmie Ward in the secondary. Statistically, the defense is ranked #1 overall, #1 points allowed at 16.3 points/game, ranked #2 against the run, and ranked #2 against takeaways. This reminds a lot of the Baltimore Ravens the year that they won it with Trent Dilfer playing QB. They fly to the ball, gang tackle, and absolutely make you beat them with the pass because there is not way of running on this defense. They have strength on the interior and their linebackers fly to the ball.
