I do not understand this at all. The Bucs are not a terrible team but to be honest, I think they are better off keeping Winston. Sure he throws more picks than Brady. But Brady has no arm left and Winston can expose anyone with his arm and those deep threat wide receivers. With no clear running game either, Brady can be in worlds of trouble with this offense.
Want to know what is even sadder?
All the reporters who are now saying the Bucs are contenders and they are a team to watch. Maybe some of the dumbest things I have ever heard. At the beginning of free agency, I thought Brady was going back to the Pats for one last year because the options were so poor. The Cowboys were the only team that would actually be a smart move but they likely did not want him. Who would at this point? It will be very weird to see how this plays out but I cannot see what Tom was thinking with all this.

I strongly disagree. If Jameis threw half the pix he threw, they would have made the playoffs. The defense ended up 5th DVOA, 2nd ypg versus the run. The trick for the Bucs is protecting Brady. With perhaps the best receiving core in the league, Brady still has the physical capability to get them to the promise Land which by the way is here next season, Tampa Bay baby!

As a lifelong Dolphins fan and 20 year resident of Tampa Bay this is about as win/win as I could possibly get in the world of sports. Of course being a good NFL handicapper helps too

IMO you got this wrong it will be the PATS who will free fall... Thats right TB was just a "system" QB... Lets see Bill without TB.. IMO this is the reason TB left he was tired of the its Bill and his system hogwash.. Remember the Browns Bill well their back.. Lets see him plug in LONG term a system QB...good luck..

Also as a long time Steeler fan I hate TB but he is the reason Pats won not Bill IMO.. Glad to see him leave the Pats.. He had Pitt's number .. Will look forward to playing the Pats again.. Bill and his system..

I'm not sure what to expect from a 43 year old Brady because it's rare to have 43 year old QBs in the NFL(I know I'm stating the obvious) Their Defense was 5th in DVOA but I think there might be a chance for a regression? I know the Bucs defense was 32 in DVOA in 2018 so that was a huge leap forward .. Their receiving Corp is excellent but Arians likes to throw the ball Deep and Brady doesn't have the arm that he once did so I don't know.. I'm not saying it won't work out because it might but I guess we shall see?

Withthe size of Evans and Godwin and even OJ Howard, just throw it up, jump balls, believe Jameis did it more than a few times, I saw every game.

Arians is an awesome coach, I think Brady will elevate this team to the playoffs. I think Jameis was an anchor to the team with bad decisions and too many turnovers.

If they can protect Brady and stay relatively healthy, they will be in the playoffs. But having watched a lot of Buccaneers football, protecting the QB has been an issue. Brady will have to throw sum balls away, quickly. Jameis was unable to do that on top of the many poor decisions he made, and it cost him his job.

the game in London panthers sacked Winston ten times, has brady ever been sacked ten times in a game? Maybe this year

Winston lacks the intelligence that Brady has, he reminds me of Murray too...not knowing when to end the play and cut your risk vs trying to gamble every single time.
Rivers is the polar opposite of this in theory but for sure Brady is smart enough to know when the formation is going to be right and when to audible out of a play and make the smart decision.
The Bucs coaching staff is nails...I think this was a super smart decision and Arians is going to the playoffs again like he did with the Cards and a lesser Carson Palmer.

Ok maybe I was a bit rough. They should be better this year. But why? Who else did they sign? Not one guy other than Brady. I get Winston was a turnover machine but he also threw 30 TDs and like 5000 yards and put up a ton of points, something Brady will likely not match.
I just need more evidence that a 7-9 team who only adds a 43-year-old QB way past his prime is somehow now a contender and can win 11-12 games. I am not seeing it yet. And that is all media. The media was calling this team a wreck and the coaches dont know what they are doing last year. Now they add old Tom and suddenly they are a contender and the coaching staff is elite again? Yikes.

Phillip, let me throw this at you, and it'll be to you and not someone else. Jameis not only threw 30 pix, an astonishing 7 we're returned for TD's. Without the XP's that's 42 points. Consider the Bucs lost 5 games by a total of 26 points, including 2 in OT. I'll let you do the mathematical difference. As far as the coaching, this was a completely new staff under Arians. Todd Bowles, defensive coordinator, took what was statistically one of the worst defenses in the league in 2018 to statistically one of the best in 2019. He did an amazing job rest assured. Arians and OC Byron Leftwich, 1st year together, overall did a good job. I can recall some occasional questionable play calls, they'll learn from that but there isn't a football game I've seen where I didn't wonder about a play call or two, and believe me I've seen alot of football. As far as Brady's age and skills, we'll just have to see. I think the man still has plenty of game left in him. What little he may have lost skill wise he'll make up for with his intelligence and experience. But as I mentioned before, Tampa must get better play out of their offensive line, something we have not seen for a few years now, and those big boys must stay healthy, something else that has not happened. No matter what, they are better with Brady who has never made the bonehead, headscratching plays/decisions that Jameis has, not even close. And that my friend is the difference between winning and losing in the NFL, limiting your mistakes.

Right on. And now he is going to help take a 43 year old QB to the promise land? Hilarious.
