i know this may be hard to swallow for some people, and dont get me twisted, ed reed is an excellent safety, but ed reed was not even the best safety on his college team. ed reed is an excellent ballhawk and has great anticipation skills, but you have to account for the blitzing style of his defense that makes opposing QBs just throws ducks up out of fear, i would say a solid 33% of his interceptions are lame ducks, but he does make plays either way. he is a great safety.
that being said, sean taylor IS BETTER(NOT WOULD'VE BEEN), and i'd be willing to bet you ask any player in the NFL, INCLUDING ED REED HIMSELF, will give you the same answer. sean taylor. this guy was straight scary. a freak. 6'3 230 lbs, 4.2 something speed, a 40+" vert, the hands of wideout, the best football mind i have seen in some time, great anticipation, and, need i really even say it, unparalleled tackling. he was seriously unbelievable for the short time that god let us watch him. i've never seen any other nfl rookie make opposing offensive players, cringe, take kneel downs, and run out of bounds. ask anyone who you would not want to be hit by, it is unquestionably sean taylor.
now i understand that many of you will argue this point, and you have valid reason to do so considering the lack of time that sean had to prove himself, but i promise you, he IS THE BEST SAFETY. not just athleticly, but his mind is what set him apart. people may remember him for spitting in micheal pittman's face, or laying out the punter in the pro bowl(LOLOLOL), but ask anyone who ever played with him, he didnt need to say one word, and you knew that he was going to everything it took to get the W, and it inspired all around him.
god bless his soul, and rest in peace sean.

whoah whoah whoah....
first of all, you couldn't be more wrong on the mental aspect of your argument. take for instance the second interception ed reed had yesterday. he came from the dead opposite safety, into the left flat(about 40-50 yards), in less the 5 seconds and jumped an IN ROUTE!!!. that is all mental straight up, ive never seen polamalu do that. and i think the best part of sean taylor was his mental game, thats what made him scary...
