all ed reed has on dawkins is INT... I understand that is a huge part, but Dawkins is all over the field making plays. 46 FFB to ed reeds 6. something in that range. Ed Reed is sick, but Dawkins is one of the best all-time. Dawkins and Reed in there prime, I would go with B-Dawk

the game has changed alot... the modern game has opened up quite a bit   teams didnt nearly pass as much as they did  in the days of
 
Mike Haynes 46 ints 13 yrs
Willie Wood48 ints  11yrs
Mel Renfroe52 ints 13 yrs
Ronnie Lott 63 ints 11yrs
Paul Krause  81 ints 15 yrs   using INTs this is the guy that set the bar
 
alot of these  all time greats also  played and contributed in the biggest stage of all the super bowl something ed reed hasnt done...if ed reeds carreer ended because of injury tommorow he wouldnt even be considered for the HOF

 ed reed is on pace to break the record for carreer ints....  but  the game has changed soooo much   alot of the old time safeties were also your punt returners and kick-off returners..... i dont have time to check on tackles either bur where does he rank there???  is he on pace with some of the GREATEST ever??  ... alot if things go into being the ALL TIME best ed reed isnt there YET  but well on his way

one last thing  Reed is without a doubt a talented safety and has a knack for finding the endzone after  BUT the guy hardly puts the fear in any receiver as far as hits go ronnie lott one of the hardest hitting safties ever and even troy P or john lynch, rodney harrison  would just plain out fucking drill anyone ballzy enough to TRY and catch a ball in their area  ed reed?? ...no   sorry

He has an unreal '' feel'' for where the ball is going and his ability to get there is second to none...does he hit like Troy or Brain ???No,they put fear in the runners and receivers something Ed does really do.Ed wouldn't make the Hall of Fame if he never played again?Well they might as well close the doors because in his 7 years in Baltimore he is beyond peril at free safety....

Reed is a pick and Td machine BUT Troy is a better tackler and overall better safety IMO.

Reed is a free safety so his INT's will be high as he lay back and play CF against the pass.  Pola is a strong safety so his INT will be lower as he supports the run more.  It's kind of like comparing apple to orange.

He's absolutely perfect for that defense because they have guys in other areas that can support the run and inject fear in offensive players.  I don't think he's the best ever (Lott is my choice), but I'd have a hard time taking him 2nd if you asked me who right now I'd want on my team.

Polomalu can tackle MUCH better than Reed.   Reed is one dimensional, pass coverage.  I think that Darren Sproles would run Reed over.  And Polamalu has tackled Brandon Jacobs, no way Reed tackles that dude.
 
BUT with all that bashing on Reed, i think i would still take him over any FS in the league

 i'll take troy polamalu on my team! better tackler and is all over the damn field! ed reed a better ball hawk, but either way the ravens suck because pittsburgh beat them twice already this year and will beat them a 3rd time when they meet in the afc championship game! troy polamalu 3 wins! ed reed none! case closed!!!

ray lewis is still a great football player but he has lost a step! still can't beat pittsburgh! steelers still the best defense in football!!!

that's right! should be another blood bath dog fight!!! i see the ravens beating the titans, so world war 3 will take place at the ketchup bottle! however, flacco won't be facing the dolphins! he'll be facing the best defense in football and not sure how the rookie is going to deal with the playoff atmosphere in pittsburgh? those steeler fans are loud and crazy as hell!!! flacco might be a little gun shy against that defense and that crowd might rattle him a little bit! i know flacco played there earlier in the year but the playoffs are a whole new ballgame and those fans will be even louder and those terrible towels will be flying!!! steelers win 19-16!
