agreed, as predicted before the trade, I knew the Suns would not be as strong as they were before the trade. They were the best team in the NBA, they had the confidence, the scheme and a great personnel to run that offense, it's crazy to trade away a third of the dominant trio in Marion. They should of figured that they can no longer play like a fast paced team with a 300+ pounder in Shaq who is past his time, even he said a few years back, that he should be retired by this time. Just curious in STEVE KERR and those guys, there's no reason to believe that they would win at a high percentage with a completely different team, we have seen the abomination of a team who had the potential to win the Championship. It's just sad that they made a very costly mistake in breaking up the trio who were in their third year together. The third year playing together is lucky because the teams such as Shaq+Kobe Lakers, Parker Ginobili Duncan's Spurs, Pistons group, all won their first championship . PHX was supposed to be added to that list but it seems that they will not continue that trend, simple as this, they were fooled in making the BIGGEST mistake in trading for a tired, old, out of shape SHAQ. Pat Riley must have been smoking a blunt and dying on the floor the night the trade went through because he got pretty good value for a player who had already past his time, even as a role player for any team such as Phoenix.

Cwebb in Golden State was a very small risk for a potential benefit, he was only signed for the vet's minimum so it wasn't such a bad call as you may think because they're going to need him down the stretch. Dubs have no Big men except for AB who is now hurt for the next couple of weeks. When the three's don't fall, Cwebb can get a jumper there or a dish for an assist. He has not been playing long because he is obviously out of shape. In a month or so, we should see the old Cwebb of previous years, also it does take time to adjust to a Nellie offense, especially one that plays so fast paced in the Warriors.
Also, Joe Johnson was not as important to Phoenix as you may think, they knew he could be let go and they will still win, saving the $$ to shell out. They made the right call, the Suns remained the Best team in the West.

I agree with you in some regards, the Suns were certainly better off with Marion, who could play good perimeter and interior defense, and could shoot a reliable 3. Shaq might hurt them for a while, that's acceptable. You have to give him some credit, going from Miami's style (crap) to Suns style (fast break), there were huge differences. It isn't expected that he would go in the first few games and dominate. Yes he does slow down the Phoenix Suns offense and defense, but I believe Shaq can latch on to their playing style and become a key factor. Not guaranteeing a championship berth... but, the Suns will improve and be a prescence in the playoffs this year. And I agree with packersbacker, Shaq can devote himself to the offseason and improve.

thanks for your thoughts. I think Shaq not only doesn't fit into the system, but he clogs up the works with his mere presence in the center. If Nash can get the interior passes he used to, then it could be lakers-esque with Nash, Shaq, and Amare. But he can't. He's not used to dealing with 3 or 4 defenders on the inside (much less the thick meat slabs that are Shaq's legs...he's used to only 2 defenders and Amare's hopscotch ass. This is the sort of thing that needs an offseason and a preseason to get together. MAYBE they come back next year and do well, but I think they're cactus-fucked this season.
GL on your wagers, and I appreciate your comments.

Thank you for well-thought out criticism of my Shaq-attack and suggestion of the Foenix Phutility. If you feel you have not fulfilled your adequatulence, then please feel free to expand on your ideas with one of these next:
But you should know that bashing in the main forums is a violation of Lou's Manifesto, and it can get you boxed.
I assure you. You don't want that.
I am betting Philly on the spread and ML tonight. This is not a n official PBox Nation play, but it probably should be.

The Suns problem is they have a GM who is an idiot. They could have kept Kurt Thomas and dealt Marion for another wing player and some bench help in the off-season. But instead he held on to Marion and panicked when the Lakers got Pau. I personally think that Shaq makes them an overall better defensive team and rebounding team. But they are a poorer perimeter defensive and what little bench they did have they have no more with the trade.

In terms of defensive efficiency; they are the second worst defensive team in last 5 games. Defensive efficiency is points allowed per 100 possession of opponent

Last 5 games, the Suns have lost to New Orleans, Detroit, and the Lakers, giving up 120, 116, and 130. They beat the Grizzlies in a rather hard-fought win (and squeaked by with the cover), and they gave up 113. The Celtics game was an anomaly. The Suns did everything they could to give up 130 again, but the Cs just couldn't hit wide open shots.
Now which part of the last 5 games means that the Suns will make the playoffs? They don't get to play the Grizz every night...

Use the "Last 5 Games" tab.

Big time Shaq fader here. It's weird watching the Suns now. They fly up the court with their offense but I keep thinking "something's missing." 4 seconds later "something" comes waddling into the play, sets a half assed pick and then walks up and stands on the edge of the paint hoping the ball lands in his hands. I only like the move because my team, by default, is the Nuggets.
My question is this. Which playoff possible team would Shaq have been the best fit for? Any? I think he is just an overhyped roleplayer who can sell some tickets now.
