I'm sure this has been said a million times since the playoffs have started, but I always find it interesting: Phil Jackson coached teams are 44 - 0 in playoff series when they've won game 1.

I realize that has no bearing on tonight's game, however, it may influence how you wager on the remainder of the series.

Do you guys seriously not remember this same Laker team from last year.  Yeah artest is no ariza, whatever, its basically the same team doing the same thing...killing bettors by only playing when they want to.  Last year the lakers were tied 2-2 against both the Rockets and the Nuggets laying 13 and 6 respectively.  Both games were coming off an embarrassing blowout loss in game 4 which i'm sure had plenty of bettors questioning, as they are tonight, if the lakers are for real, whether denver/rockets could hang, etc.  Same reasons we are hearing for OKC tonight.  Well last year in Game 5 the lakers beat the rockets 118-78(yes i realize no Yao but the series was tied 2-2) easily covering 13 and beat the Nuggests in that game 5 103-94, covering the 6 by pulling away in the 4th quarter.  Oh and another stat on the Lakers side tonight, they have NEVER lost a game 5 at home when tied 2-2.  That's all time folks.  I think Lakers ML is a great play but i don't lay that much juice so i'm playing the -5.5 I got yesterday.  Good Luck all.

Wow Thunder getting all this love because they won 2 at home! The NBA is all about home court in the playoffs. The Lakers always do things the hard way in the first round! The best player on the court isn't Durant its Kobe so when its time to show who is the man tonight Kobe will. Artest will frustrate the hell out of Durant! Jackson will lay the law down in the room tonight you won't see lazy play from the Lakers tonight on dee. Kobe hates to lose and i think he is getting tired of hearing Durant is better than him he will be ready to be the best player on the court tonight

I think the key this game is the kind of production the lakers get from artest, farmar, and brown.  These guys need to be hitting their open 3's at 35% or better, simple as that, right now, they are giving the team NOTHING... and its causing the lane to be clogged up for kobe, gasol and bynum....

Normally I would agree with you, but keep in mind the thunder were a 3 pointer away from possibly taking a game 2. 

The lakers have not yet played a great game in this series, but gotta give credit to the thunder for out-hustling the lakers....

Artest vs Durant on defense will be no different than the entire series: he will do a solid job, but there is only so much you can do against a player of Durant's cailiber.... More importanlty: can Artest hit his open 3's?

Please do not make the mistake of comparing what the Lakers did last year against Houston to what they are doing this year against OKC.  Because it's two totally different situations.  That Rockets team was comprised of overachieving role players who lacked a bonafide scorer like the Thunder have in Durant.  The Rockets #1 option after Yao went down was like Aaron Brooks.  OKC is ten times the team Houston was last year without Yao, and that's a fact. 

When Pau Gasol had the arrogance to say after one of those blow-outs in Houston, "we could have won if we wanted too", he was probably right.  The Lakers certainly did have that ability last year to really bury a team when they were focused and locked-in.  The same cannot be said this year though.  The Lakers did not mail-in Games 3 & 4 in Oklahoma City.  They were badly outplayed, plain and simple.  You're trying to tell me they weren't trying in Game 3?  They were and they got beaten.    .

Durant shoots the ball right over Artest like he's not even there.
 
And when he puts it on the floor and drives to the basket Artest is usually left in the dust.

That's true, but I think what he hates even more is knowing he can't will his team to victory anymore like he used too.  Especially in his current physical state which appears to be severely compromised.  I bet he also hates watching Durant do what he does because not too long ago he was that same young kid who dominated the game and everyone talked about.  But I think the thing he hates the most is kicking the ball out to Ron Artest for a wide-open three only to watch it clank off the rim again.

Amen...it pains me to watch Artest shoot as well...but you can bet the Thunder are gonna leave that knucklehead open and pray he does.

No way you should be laying that much juice on the Lakers ML, Bruuuce. I'm a little surprised you are both making this play and so confident in it. OKC has been great all season, not just the last 2 games. They can clearly play with LAL and are not afraid of them. I could maybe understand laying less than -200 on the LAL for no other reason than home court, but man... That's a lot of juice to be laying for a game that I honestly feel is a 50-50 shot at best.

To me, the biggest difference between this year's Laker team and last year's is one tiny little thing:  desire.

They just don't seem to have it.

 OKC won 50 games, the same as San Antonio and Boston, their best players are young, hungry and healthy...this is not as bizarre a circumstance as commentators are making it out to be.

Vermeer -- I agree 100%. Anyone who has paid attention to the NBA this entire season knows that the Thunder are legitimate, mainly (IMO) because they bring it on the defensive end and give excellent effort there virtually every game. I would not at all be surprised to see OKC walk into Staples and exit with a win.

I understand your point with Houston in game 5.  It does say something about the Lakers ability in Game 5's at home though when you are able to beat a scrappy Houston team by 40, but point taken on the different situational aspect.

The Denver series from last year which I also brought up, however, closely resembles this series.  3 games that could have gone either way in Games 1-3, then a blowout loss in Game 4.  Then they came home and beat Denver by 9(I know the game was tied after 3 quarters but a cover is a cover).  Coincidentally, the line is exactly the same for tonight as it was last year for game 5 with Denver when the Lakers were also laying 6.  The Rockets from last year are certainly not as talented as the thunder, but I believe the Denver team from last year was at least as talented as the Thunder if not more and had playoff experience with Billups and Melo, something the Thunder still lack.  This is their first Game 5 period, and the Lakers have never lost in this situation at 2-2 and home in Game 5.  Trust me, i despise the fuckn lakers, but i think tonight is the right situation to bet on them. GL.
