He didn't show up in the playoffs!
It doesnt matter if he is worth it or not.. they have to resign him to an extension of some sort. There are only so much top players in the league. Who else could they possibly sign in free agency to field a competitive team win with Embiid to win now.
If 76ers tell Harden no we are not going to extend you then he will opt out of his player option for this up coming season and be a free agent and get his money from another team. 76ers gave up the farm to get harden -Simmons and multiple 1st’s. They will not get anything in return. So Harden will opt in to his $47 million option by end of June and then sign an extension in August when he eligible. All of this will be agreed upon before he opts in. James holds all the cards right now.

This is ridiculous, Dave. It doesn't matter if he's worth it? Pay him anyway?
They didn't give up the farm. Ben Simmons, who knows what he will be. Seth Curry, a nice piece. An unprotected 1st in either '22 or '23. I believe they deferred to '23. Unless Philly collapses, it will be a 20-30 pick. And a top 8 protected 1st in '27.
Harden never seems to care. Immensely talented but doesn't seem to want to put the work in to be great. Philly fans have been waiting and trusting the process for so long. They can't pin their hopes on an aging star who doesn't seem to work on his body, or care to be a better player. You can probably get three good free agents that would help you content for Garden's salary.

So its ok for the GS warriors to give out massive extensions to Poole and Wiggins and have a $200 Million tax penalty while have Klay Korver makes $45 Million each of the next 2 seasons...Only GS can try and make their team better but noone else....So how much points did Poole and Wiggins average this season compared to Harden? I bet you think Poole & Wiggins is a better player than Harden because they re not a #1/2 Option on their team and no pressure is on them... So because they are on a stacked team ..they deserve it. James Harden is still an elite live player...Top 10-15 in the league...Put him back on Houston and he averages 30 a game...We all know how Wiggins was as a #1/2 in minny..He shiit his pants and was considered a semi bust and Noone wants him. Now as a #3 option he is thriving and GS wants to extend him Who do want the 76ers to sign? Zach Lavine? The bulls are ready to offer him a super max well over $200 Million. Do you want to the 76ers to try and go after Bradley Beal who is going to sign a super max with the Wizards? Or do you want 76ers to just not have a good team? So tell me who do you want the 76ers to sign????? Who is out there... Like I mentioned in my previous posts..there are only so much else level players in the league.

Zach Lavine played in his 1st playoffs this year with he Bulls...He averaged 19 PPG as their #1 option Derozan out played him in the playoffs.... Maybe the Bulls should not re-sign Lavine and give him the super max? ...Bradley Beal was hurt this entire year...Maybe Wizards should not give him the Super Max...WTF has he done in the playoffs?
Both those teams are resigning or offering the super max to these players...Are they worth it..Probably not.. but they have no choice..You have to field a competitive team based in whats out there...You have to fill the seats...You have to spend $$ as team...Not resigning Harden

You can be serious. Yeah, put Harden back on the Rockets and he averages 30 but how many Championships do they win? How many times do they appear in the finals? Comparing this situation to the Warriors is laughable. The Warriors just won their 4th title in 8 years. They paid "Klay Korver" because he is a homegrown player who was an integral part of 3 Championships, and a fan favorite. It was the rare occasion when what you've already done is as much a part of your contract as what you might do. They paid him knowing he would sit a year+. It ended up being 2+ years. That's an ownership group sticking by their guy. Jordan Poole is probably the future face of the franchise. Paying him would be a business move. Someone has to put asses in the seats. As far as Wiggins goes, I didn't expect him to get an extension but those are the rumblings. He did just play his ass off, and his heart out in route to a Championship. He's a high character guy. Nice Canadian kid. Son of a former player. The Warriors like that type of kid. You calling him the Warriors' third option is laughable. The Warriors' aren't even structured that way. There's Steph, then any and everyone else in the 2nd option. Could be Klay one night. Poole the next night. Maple J two nights later. The Warriors are a team, not a collection of players.
Now on to James E. Harden Jr. He's 33, and isn't home grown so he isn't the future face of the franchise like Jordan Poole. He isn't the current face of the franchise. He isn't a fan favorite. He's an extremely talented player but he doesn't play winning basketball. He isn't high character. He has never committed to playing defense. He has lost a step athletically. He has been in the worst shape of his career. He looks like a soccer dad. Why would the Sixers commit 200 million to a guy like that? Let him opt in to his option or let him walk. The Sixers need to build a winning culture with guys that play together, and play for each other. Tobias needs to do more. Tyrese needs to take the next step. I think they need to move on from Thybulle, or utilize him as an off the bench defensive spark. And, well, you can get a lot for Hardens 40+ million. Two or three players that want to win, or a younger super star. Why commit money to an aging, fat, uninspired James Harden?

Zac Lavigne is six years younger and is liked around the entire league. Plus he's an exciting player to watch. Harden is 33, fat, and lazy. Why is Steph Curry 34 and ripped while Harden is 33 and looks like he eats every meal at Hooters?
I love your takes. Give him a max just because. Why not, right? Why spend that money on actually trying to put together a winning team? Just plug and play players like it's 2K. Do it the LeBron way.

So once again...who do you want the 76ers to sign/get instead of Harden? You know when you sign a free agent in free agency you have to be under the cap right so it makes it impossible for the 76ers to sign a free agent this year even if there was one out there????????????????..If you own the players rights then you can go over the cap to resign your own players, which is how GS is able to keep all their players...Embiid is on a super max and Harris makes $37 Million for the next 2 years ..so basically they are capped out and can only resign Harden. Do you want the 76ers to waste Embiid's prime years? Harden gives the 76ers the best chance to win NOW. This is a BUSINESS as well...

What in the regular season when teams do NOT play defense. Is he worth $200+ million..HE will never lead a team to a title NEVER. you know that..There are star players, which are dime a dozen and then their are elite star players...But you still have pay him because who else are the Bulls going to pay? Same with James.

Zach Lavine has been there 5 years and is a fan favorite. Harden hasn't even been there half a season, he's 33 with a dad bod, and nobody really likes him.
I guess you're right though. They should just go the throw money at an aging veteran route because that has worked how many times in history? How is it working out for the Lakers. Sitting in a 47 million dollar player option for Russell Westbrook.
The Sixers are in panic mode. And if they extend James Harden, it will be a panic buy. Like stocking up on toilet paper. If Harden wants to prove he can playing winning basketball, if he wants to prove he gives a damn rather than just collecting a check, he can opt into his player option. He isn't a fan favorite. He isn't home grown. He isn't 27 with some upside left. It's all downhill from here.
Let's see how many points he scores now that the league is cracking down on flopping. Harden is still immensely talented. He put up good numbers last year. He's still a near triple double average type of player. Underrated facilitator. 10 assists in his sleep. Will he do all the little things though? Will he play defense? Will he be a leader to guys like Maxey and Thybulle? Does he care about winning? Does he hate to lose? Or will he flame out in the conference semis and just go to the strip club?
If Harden wants to walk, let him walk. There's not a ton of teams with money to sign a guy like Harden. If he's committed he'll opt in for the year.

Sorry but Dave is right they have to do it. And they will, the GM loves Harden. Pity they didnt just wait and maybe they could have got Kyrie, I know people think he's selfish I think he's definitely got some quirks but I think his talent is something extraordinary, and tbh even tho i got the jab myself if i had to do it again i wouldn't and i respect him for sticking to his guns

While you "respect him for sticking to his guns," he royally screwed his team by missing so many games.
The most important ability is availability.

Player option. All he has to do is opt in. I would even offer him two years at max money but locking up Harden for 4-5 years, at 33, when he has no sentimental ties to the team, and often looks like he doesn't give a f*ck, why would they give him a deal?
Dave talks about how much "Klay Korver" is making but the Bay for the most part loves Klay Korver. He's our guy. Nobody gives a shite about James Harden.

Stu is biased...He Cleary still does not understand how it works...He thinks the 76ers are wasting money etc..but only GS can hand out crazy extensions like its candy and money is no issue with them to keep their own players regardless of age but 76ers cannot......He should be looking at the Extension Curry just got and the current contracts of Green and Klay Korver the next 2 years...In Stu's mind only the Dubs can pay all their players...and pay a ridiculous luxury tax that was $176 million this past season and will be $250 million+ next season and the year after...Its all fine and dandy cause they won the ship this year..Just wait until they do not win it and the aging of Korver/Green and Curry...the next 2 years with their contracts....Then Wiggins..give the guy close to a max and extend poole....I can't wait for the grumbling when they don't win it all...I bet in his mind he wants to extend Klay Korver after next season because he's one of them even though he is trash already
James was only in Philly for 2 months...Did u see Andrew Wiggins when he got traded to the Dubs? WTF did he do in 2020 & 2021??????? Please explain..so now that he is a 3rd/4th option and had a couple of good games in the playoffs..the Dubs want to extend him.. Good one...Yet..James was only in Philly for 2 months and everyone want to get rid of him

76ers have no option...Harden makes them a better team and gives them a better shot to win a ship bottom line..You are saying don't extend him because he's not worth it in the long run..etc...76ers are trying to win a ship now..teams mortgage the future to win now...Just like the Lakers did and GS......If they do not sign/extend him then they cannot sign another player of his caliber in free agency...You think they can just sign someone else in free agency of Harden's caliber and price range?? like who??..That is what you clearly do not understand....And it is the same exact reason why GS can resign all their players and give them massive extension...Because they can go over the cap and they do not care about money or the future..they wan to win now and deal with it later and boy they will deal with it......Same with the 76ers..they can go over the cap to extend Harden.. How does Harden make them a better team? Did they do any better in these playoffs then they did in recent years? I'll wait.
Andrew Wiggins is 27 and probably still hasn't reached his full potential. James Harden will 33 and is on the downslope of his career. He has never committed to playing defense, though in fairness, he wasn't asked to under D'Antoni. He doesn't take care of his body. Look at Steph last year and look at James Harden.
You keep calling Wiggins the 3rd or 4th option, which is completely asinine. As I said before, the Warriors are a fluid team. There is no 2nd, 3rd, 4th option. There's a first option, and then everyone else. And I'm all for paying guys that make you better but just throwing money at aging veterans just because makes no sense. You keep comparing the Sixers to the Warriors, who have drafted well and developed most of their guys. You should be comparing them to the Lakers. Desperate. Panic buying. Now they owe Russell Westbrook 47 million dollars.
If James Harden is committed to winning in Philadelphia, he has a player option. All he has to do is opt in. You claim he makes them better but they couldn't get past Miami. Who is Miami's 2nd best player? Bam? Tyler? Kyle Lowry?
If James Harden was committed to winning in Philly, he wouldn't have a beer belly. Uber talented. Had a good year statistically. A good few months with the Sixers. I just wouldn't commit 4-5 years of max money to a guy who generally seems like he doesn't care.
Stop comparing the Sixers to the Warriors. Compare them to the Lakers. Westbrook - 47 million this year.

76ers don’t need to panic and they should resign harden even though he kinda sucks. The move that no one is talking about is melton. 76ers fans aren’t even talking about/acknowledging this trade. Melton is better than Maxey in every advanced metric. They have a great starting 5 but no depth. Morey fixed that with one first round draft pick. Melton should absolutely start over Maxey but Philly is pretty dumb so he will come off the bench and be a 6MOTY contender without a doubt. Do not sleep on philly next year.

@DialedCaper7
I love Melton but the Sixers now have too much guard depth. I love Maxey as well but both are combo guards. Harden is a better fit at the two with his size and scoring ability but his strength, that nobody talks about, is actually as a one with his playmaking ability. So what role does Philly see for him? If they are giving him an extension, they should no this. If it is as a point, then they should have targeted more size and length on the wings. This is my point. Philly is ran poorly. Do they really think James Harden puts them over the top?
@davemsh
And you comparing the Sixers to the Warriors is comical. The Warriors drafted and developed players. They established an identity and a culture. And they find pieces that fit that culture based on character and basketball IQ. All of their key pieces were homegrown except Wiggins. In Wiggins they saw a solution to a need. When Durant was injured, then left, and Klay was injured, they new they wouldn't compete. They brought in guys like DeAngelo Russell and Kelly Oubre just to give the fans something to watch in the new arena but they knew those players would never work long term. When they were ready to compete again, they targeted Wiggins, a player nobody wanted. They knew they needed a new primary wing defender. They knew they needed some youth, length, and athleticism. They saw he was a nice, humble kid. That he was the son of a player, which they like. They had heard Jimmy Butler liked him and respected his competitiveness, which says a lot as Buckets respects very few players. He was a good fit. They brought him in and challenged him to play defense. They coached him into a better defender. They said, "This is what we need from you to collective win. Some nights you'll get 20+ shots. Some nights not but we need you to defend, to rebound, to make the right decisions. Everyone on the Warriors have to do this. Buy in and makes smart plays. You act like the Warriors just right blank checks to random stars. They developed guys and brought in Andrew Wiggins when no one else wanted him. This is illustrated by the fact that they finessed a first round pick out of Minnesota as a topper.
You comparing the Sixers situation to the Warriors is comical at best. If the Warriors extend Wiggins, it's because he is 27, was just the 2nd best player on a Championship team, best defender, will only get better, and he fits the culture. James Harden will be 33, looks out of shape, and has always had character questions. When the Warriors sucked, Steph promised fans they would figure it out. When they lost the play-in, he proclaimed, "You don't want to see us next year." Harden loses and goes to the strip club. Did he ever address the fans in Houston? Was he ever a leader? The young Warriors are always talking about the leadership of Steph, Dray, Klay, and Iggy. Has anyone ever talked about the leadership of Harden? Is Philly trying to win, or just creating the illusion that they are trying? How does James Harden put them over the top?
If he is committed to winning in Philly, he had a player option. Opt in.

Opt in.

Melton can guard 1-3, and averages 2.6 steals a game per 36. He’s thyebulle without being absolutely horrendous on offense. Sixers should dump thyebulls contract they don’t need him.

Yeah, Thybulle is such a good defender but he offers nothing offensively. He has a little more size and length that Melton but Melton offers so much more offensively. Thybulle would contribute to a team like the Mavs and while their is some interest, Philly should unload him. This kinda all goes back to the ridiculousness of Dave comparing the Sixers, and the Harden situation, to the Warriors. Can you see James Harden making any of these young guards better? Has any young player ever came out and said Harden mentored them? Made them a better player? The Warriors have high character vets and they bring in high character prospects. Look at a team like Milwaukee. Drafted Giannis. Brought in Middleton as an unknown. Said we're committed to winning with you guys. There big acquisition was Jrue Holiday. High character guy. Married his college sweetheart. Brought in high character, competitive fire guys like Bobby Portis and PJ Tucker. Won. Look at Boston. All homegrown plus Al Horford, whose family still rooted for the Celtics after he left. Hated being away from the team. Then you have the Lakers. Throw money at high prices vets. Bubble title. Play in game then stomped by the Suns. Missed the playoffs entirety. Russ with 47 million player option. Yeah, give Harden a max deal. That'll fix everything.
