Welcome! I'm new here too and I've found that if you do your research and then compare your thoughts/ideas/notes with others on this site, you can give yourself the best opportunity at winning instead of just a blind stab in the dark. I try and stick to a system (1-5 bets a day at 1-5 units depending on my confidence), I don't chase (there's always games tomorrow) and I don't bet with emotions (I use stats/trends/tendencies).
I've hit 2 4-team parlays & I just hit a 5-team $50 for $1003.36 on Sunday (MIA/DET/U(DET)/ORL/DEN)
My advice on parlays would be to only play 1 or 2 of them as a small fraction of your straight bets. On Sunday, I made straight bets on all but the MIA game with great confidence & my research told me a 5th choice was either the MIA or the LAL game. I figured TOR not covering 18 was a better bet than LAL giving SA 8. I got lucky and won the parlay, but if I were to lose, it wouldn't have hurt my bankroll because I made the other straight bets.
