4/6/08 Abreu & Betemit were in the lineup.

So he beat a team where Abreu, Betemit, Giambi and Ensberg are no longer on the team. Nady isn't coming back. Ransom won't play tonight and Molina may or may not be in the lineup tonight. On top of all that, A-Rod didn't play in any of those games and Tex obviously wasn't there either. The Rays' bullpen is far from what it was last season as well.

Yanks rested a lot of people last weekend for this road trip, you have to think they'll be focused and give it there best tonight. Tampa can't win if they don't get 4 homers a game. I don't think that will happen tonight against a good pitcher and their current batting slump.

I'd say there is definitely value in the yanks because of their past success against shields and Tb's mini hitting slump, but this game can go either way WITHOUT a doubt, and that is STRAIGHT UP gambling. so even though there is value in them, and personally yes i think they are going to win, no play for me.

tb has struggled this past week. they have been behind almost if not every game. they came from behind to beat the royals each game if i am not mistaken and against the bluejays for two games too.
yes the yankees have struggled a bit too but they are on a better run than the rays have been lately.
i got yankees at -107 ml  and taking the rl as well.

The 1 thing I find that the Rays do have going for them is that Mo is coming off a 4 out save and Hughes is unavailable tonight most likely.

so you guys think shields will end up 5-30 lifetime against the yanks when he retires based on past performance? i love how a lot of people think just because someone is 0-5 lifetime that that means he will end up going 0-30 lifetime! i am not a trend bettor and i don't cap games based on these trends because these trends tend to even out in the end! so just because shields is 1-6 lifetime, i am willing to bet that this trend evens out sooner or later and shields ends his career at somewhere near a .500 record vs. the yanks. so give me tampa and shields tonight to "buck" this trend!!!

I took T.B tonight also but to say his record would near .500 vs. NYY lifetime? Isn't that what you were preaching against? Besides, if you were a pitcher and playing against a team which is consistenly better than yours(just for argument's sake), it wouldn't even out.

 And 2 starts were in 2007 against the Yanks where he was smacked around. Last season he pitched very well against the Yanks, but like you said, how will that bear on tonight's game? If you read my thread, you'll see that Jeter, Damon, Matsui and Cano all hammer Shields, while Crawford is the only hitter on the Rays team that has any success against Burnett(.333). Of the 26 RBIs against Shields, those 4 have 16 of them. And out of the 9 homers against him, those 4 have 7 of them. I'll say it again, the Yanks are the hotter, team with the better starting pitcher.

 

Sparky whether you agree or disagree the guys making the lines know more than me and you.....Just an example is last night in the White Sox game...."Sharp money" took the White Sox line from 150 to 130.....

Anyway.....to this game....You are basing your stats too much on what Shields did before last year. In 2008 he faced the Yanks 3 times and gave up 4 runs total in 20 innings.

In 2007 he pitched twice against the Yanks and got blasted. At Yanks stadium 3.1 innings and 10 runs, and at home he pitched 6 innings and gave up 5 earned runs....It was hit second year in the bigs and he has come a long way since then except on the road. At home "Big Game James" is Great....

 what i am saying is i'm willing to bet that by the end of james shields career that his career record will be somewhere near .500 vs. the yankees not .142 where it stands right now! maybe .470 or .480 or maybe even over .500. the kid is still young and very talented. some of you guys are trend bettors and i guess you think shields will go 5-30 lifetime? hey, best of luck to you! i am not a trend bettor, in fact i like to go against a lot trends because most trends will tend to fall back to 50/50! that's one reason i'm on tampa bay tonight. there's other factors too i used to cap this game and all variables point towards tampa bay for me! good luck to whomever you bet! may the best team tonight win!

There is no such thing as a trap in baseball. Don't over think this game. We're able to get the Yanks at a cheap price because they're playing the defending AL champs on the road where the Rays are 30-15 this year. But, the Yanks are clearly the better team with the better pitcher going tonight. There is value in this line and you're crazy if you think otherwise. It's either Yankees or no play. Frankly, you're crazy if you ever bet against the Yankees.

Rays are money at home. Yanks have been busy beating some pretty shitty teams, ie, Oakland and Baltimore.
