Dbacks really fucked us over.  corbin looked excellent thru 6 then just hit the wall.  plus these dbacks were lucky to even score their first run with a balk in the 1st by latos.  what a shit game.

Hey Tone, when you referred to Corbin as, "the kid has been worth 1.1 WAR over only 10 starts", I was wondering how that is judged.  What I mean is, intuitvely I understand that is good but is there a basic measuring stick that can be used?  For instance, is every good start  worth 0.110 WAR or something to that affect?

The important thing to know about WAR is that it's an accumulated stat... so pitchers who make more starts will have a higher WAR, provided they are performing. That's why I mentioned the number of starts he had made. A 1.1 WAR over 30 or so starts isn't all that impressive. Over 10 starts it is.

To provide a measuring stick for that, assume that Corbin made a full season's worth of starts (around 32 starts). That would put him at 3.5 WAR for the season. Last season, starters with around a 3.5 WAR  over 30 or so starts included guys like Gio Gonzalez, Brandon Morrow, and Mark Buehrle.

I think the value was there with the D-Backs because Corbin was an unknown quantity in name. But sharps know who he is, and they hammered that +115 opener down to +100. Unfortunately, it didn't cash, but Corbin did pitch really well all game before collapsing in the 7th.
