the mets -1 is that the margin of victory odds well that is what i have on my sportsbook

Hey AJ, love that Reds pick. Reds have more road wins than D'backs have home wins. More importantly, i think Arroyo sparkles while Garland struggles against the hot Reds bats. GL buddy.

Of course everyone is going to say, how did you figure it out?

I can elaborate on that one....


Let (X) be some part of your bet size to bet on the ML.
Let (bet size - X) be the remainder of your bet on the RL


Calculating your ML bet size.

X = (ABS(ML ODDS) * BET SIZE) / (100 + ABS(ML ODDS))

In the case of the example above, the CWS ML is -180 and assuming a $100 bet size

X = (ABS(-180) * $100) / (100 + ABS(-180))

X = (180 * 100) / (100 + 180)
X = 18000 / 280
X = 64.28  (round to $64.30)

So when you bet X at -180 odds you win (100/180)*X profit

Here, Betting $64.28 at -180 odds, gives you a profit of $35.71, which should equal your bet size of  ($100 - 64.28)


Calculating your RL bet size.

BET SIZE - X = Amount to lay on the RL

$100 - $64.28 = $35.71 (round to $35.70)


Therefore, betting $64.28 at -180 ML odds yields a profit of $35.71 and betting $35.71 at the run line odds (+131) yields $46.77.


So if Mets win by 2 or more, you win both bets, winning a profit of $82.45 (betting $100 to win $82.45)

If Mets win by exactly 1 run, you lose the RL bet of $35.71, but win the ML bet to profit $35.71, breaking EVEN.

If Mets lose, you lose both bets ($64.30 + $35.71 = $100)



Since you bet $100 to win $82.45, you would bet $121 to win $100, therefore your effective -1 odds are -121.
