The King returns tonight for his first start since he was last seen getting his ankle rolled on a play at the plate at Shea Stadium.
At first glance -110 seems like a pretty decent price to back Felix, as he was great in his stretch of starts leading up to his injury at NY. The mariners pen should be in okay shape tonight, in spite of another extra inning affair on Thursday. I won't read too much into Morrow's debacle yet. He didn't look that sharp in the bullpen and certainly carried that form into the game. I do think the Mariners pen will wear down as we progress into August, but I'm okay counting on them now to perform well if the mariners get a lead. I think it's worth noting that Felix has been great in starting the past two seasons.
Luke Hochevar has been average and he is a lefty. The former has been able to dominate the Mariners this season, while the latter has had more difficulties.
I do think the release of Sexson won't do much for the team until they also release Vidro, and perhaps get lucky with a call-up or Johjima playing first base. The release will certainly hurt the attitude muscle.

Emmel=Big time under ump (13 of 19 games called have gone low), also, what was the word on the King leading up to this start, did he throw earlier in the week? has he been testing that ankle? And whats up with Ichiro? missed last nights game, is he good 2go? I'm still waiting on Clement to hit, I know he can, now he needs to prove it.

.260 team avg vs AL teams (.281 vs NL inflates overall avg)
decreases across the board vs RHP compared to LHP
mariners:
.246 team avg vs RHP (.284 vs LHP inflates overall avg)
.246 team avg vs AL teams (.286 vs NL teams)
.242 team avg & .242 risp avg since exiting interleague play
Paul Emmel is very consistently in the 63% area of strikes called, and that type of strike % is almost always in the top 3rd of mlb umps.
hochevar has been much better at home and his last two starts do inflate his recent trends as well as overall season numbers becasue they were so bad.
Felix has been throwing bullpen sessions, all vibes have been good, the club did feel those would be enough to keep in shape instead of sending him out for a rehab start. however, they did push felix back to friday, first rumors had him going on wed. or thursday in oakland against a team that he has been good against. I'm not sure how of that was related to giving him extra time or just likeing the spot better becasue he was only going to get one start before the all-star break anyways.
both of felix's starts at KC have been good, and he's been solid on the road this season
