People do it...not me, but i'm a complete moron. It can be done. You just have to be REALLY patient and take your lumps without tilting or freaking out...have to stay within yourself. Gotta be a big picture guy.

I do it strictly for fun..........I can see how someone might be able to make a significant living at this..........But I don't have the time or patience for that......I'll stick to my day job........LOL

Well put Losernation, it is VERY VERY difficult, I've tried timand time again, and no matter how patient I try to be, I eventually fall back into needing action, so I assume I must just be addicted, but if someone can actually pick their spots, I believe it can be done, but if you're gone place wagers everyday, forget about it.

The games are tough, and its not always the way you wish to see it come out every year. I hope you have some really rip sources though, because thats what you need handy.

The only way you could dot it for a living is if you are already filthy rich like a multi-millionaire or something but of course just because you are already filthy rich does not mean you will be successful...just ask ex NBA superstars Michael Jordan & Charles Barkley...lol
If you don't already have the big bucks then you best have a day job because no way will you make decent enough money to have a high standard of living and free from the stress of making ends meet.
You can make money gambling but not the kind of money you are thinking about to support your living. You should look at gambling as entertainment that can get you some change in the process and of course it has the potential of wiping you out too, let's not forget that.

I always found my handicapping to be way better when I have a 9 to 5 job. Something about waking up early, showering and getting somewhere on time gave me the discipline in my day that helped me be disciplined with my picks. I am also much more clear headed when I know I have a paycheck coming regardless of how sports betting goes.
When sports betting has been my main source of income/loss I find it only goes well when I'm winning. I can run off a 10 day positive streak and make good money but when the coldstreak hits its harder for me to turn it around and avoid tilt. When I have all day to mull through the games, I find that I read one too many opinions that all contradict each other and get away from what I feel in my gut, not my head, my gut. In your gut you know when you place a solid bet (whether it wins or losses) as opposed to when you just go with what you think should happen and make a bet. We all know how a public joe thinks, most of us are public joes, but we have found some tools to help find the smarter side of wagering. It's easier to stay smart when you're up and about working during the day than staring at the cpu for hours forced to make gambling decisions that will determine your income.
Im quite passionate about this topic because I've been on both sides of the fence and found myself making 2 paychecks worth of money per day when I had a job because I wasn't gambling with "scared money" like I was when gambling was all I had for dough.

play what works for you , change your game when you start to lose and you will be right back in the money, baseball pays small so when you win you have to change your game, go then come back when you fell good, don't chase I play all sports and have fun

A few ( very few ) can do it consistently. One strong year does not an "expert" make- it seems that there are 3 major obstacles to making this a "career".
1) In order to make the kind of money you desire, you would need a HUGE bankroll. Depending on your winning %, you would need quite a bit at risk on a fairly regular basis.
2) The amount of research, work, etc. to become successful on a regular basis would be more than most are willing to put into this.
3) In the end, most bettors / gamblers just plain lack discipline, so eventually the money won all goes away.
Having said this, I know there are some ( on this site ) who claim to do it, or are planning on doing this full-time. I suspect when the pressure is on, it is not quite as glamorous or profitable as one might like. Most of these points have been made in previous posts, sorry for the redundancy.
Just my 2 cents, but I prefer doing it for fun.

I work in the industry albeit in the UK. Have so many of our customers closing thier accounts due to addiction it's untrue. However, we do have customers who are very shrewd.
Myself, I compile US Sports for the company so I get to see all the info I need then find the best prices around. You also tend to find certain "ricks" by companies which we jump all over. EG Ray Allen's average points in the finals set at 13.5 when all over the US Books it was 17.5.

When that equation stops being true, then you stop gambling.
And since most people, not all, but most people would not associate their job as exactly being a ton of fun, why would you want to throw gambling in that mix?
