I dont care if every team had the same exact ability to spend. Lets see mark texiera would you like to play for baltimore or the yanks at the same exact high dollar amount? Exactly. Theres a salary cap in the nba but the lakers keep getting guys. People want to go there.  Putting on the pinstripes means alot more than putting on the... jersey with a stupid bird.  "Buying" free agents is part of sports. CC may be the highest paid pitcher but that doesnt mean hes the best.

CC wanted to play in Cali.The players union pressured him and pretty much forced him to sign with the Yankees after they offered a contract that was $50 million more than any other offer.The players union is the most powerful group on people in any business. They run baseball and control what happens. They want yearly salaries to keep rising and no salary cap or change in the CBA because it makes them more profitable and makes the players more money.

The only reason Tex signed with the Yankees is because they had an all star team. He wanted a ring and knew that was more probably by signing with the Yankees.

If your scenario was put into play the Yankees would not have a team of All Stars. Meaning Tex and other players would not just sign there if everything else was equal.

Joe Mauer will most likely stay with Minny taking less money than the Yankees offer out of pure principal and respect for the game and where he grew up. Minny is ready to have a $100 million payroll for when they move into their new stadium and that means Mauer will be a part of the team if payroll goes up that much.
