I'm really not sure why we are having this discussion. Mauer should win this award hands down. It is most likely the best season ever by a catcher and it is certainly not his fault his team isn't that great. I think he adds more wins to that team than any player does to any other team in the american league.
To play such a taxing position such as catcher and play it well defensively as well as to put up these type of numbers, and I think it should be almost unanimous. Texieira plays the easiest position on the field and really sucked until arod came back.
Jeter has had a real solid year, but on that team I'm not sure how important he is, they'd still runaway with that division without him and I don't know how many wins he adds to their team. His offensive statistics are not even in the same neighborhood as mauers.

Come on now. The way I see it is that the award should go to a player who helps his team go to the playoffs or change the name of the award to "Most Outstanding Player". But hey...thats MY opinion. To his their own I guess. But for you to critisize me because of the way I think would be like you saying that I'm a moron for liking the Yankees because YOU don't. Come on man, grow up. 
He should......Look what he and the Twins have done.....And Mauer has missed a lot of time
