Alright...Who Is YOUR AL MVP?

Pujols is obviously the NL MVP...nobody will come close to him, but what about the AL? If I see 1 person type up Joe Mauer, I will be disgusted. So whose the REAL MVP? Jeter...Tex...every Angel hitting over .300? What is your pick and reason why?
 
I say Jeter because he has been solid since day. .331 batting average, almost surpassed every offensive stat that Pedroia had last season, is playing his best defense of recent memory, and aside from the Red Sox, he's hitting great against the teams that matter(.370 v Angels, .409 v Rangers, .462 v Phillies and .304 v Rays, along with hitting .300+ against 12 of the 18 teams he's played against). He's the MVP in my mind.

Jeter is my MVP candidate...just because it's the 1st post in the thread, doesn't mean this thread will be filled with Jeter talk. But he's having a great season.

I can see an argument for Mauer. Sorry...hitting .380 with 25 homers while catching is pretty damn impressive. He's also hitting .395 with RISP and .444 with RISP and two outs.

Has not gone to a pitcher since Eck in '92 but MO is the AL MVP.

If Joe Mauer wins the MVP then they should officially change the name of the award to MOP because value should mean that a player took or helped take his team to the playoffs. Mauer is playing for a team that is 5 games under .500 and probably won't make the playoffs, which would be a disgrace. He's having a season that only Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle and Williams have had, but what good is it if you play at least 3 games less than 8 other teams?

If K-Rod or Lidge didn't get it, I can't see Mo getting it. If Mo got 58 saves in 58 chances with a below 1 ERA, you can hand him the MVP and Cy Young, but I can't see him winning it, regardless of how good he has been.

Tex or Mauer, although I wouldn't have anything against Jeter.  I thought Pedroia was a pretty weak MVP last year, but no one else stood out to me, much like this year.

Good point about Lidge not winning last year. My vote goes to Tex. 
 
Btw, Jeter's not even best SS on Yanks  but he does have better taste in women then the ss at 3rd base.

Pena is probably a better overall shortstop than Jeter...but Jeter, this season, has played shortstop better than he has...I guess this century(2001+ )

They did that with Pujols last year...same thing. or in 1986 when that douchebag Mike Schmidt won it for a team that finished 90 games behind the Mets

Texiera didnt hit until A Rod got healthy.

I have to say Joe Mauer His power #s are close enough to the league leaders and his BA is about 100 points higher than the other MVP candidates

He is having a season like Piazza had in 1997 when he got dicked out of the MVP award when he batted 362 with 40 and 124 and lost out to Larry Walker and jerkoff Coors Field

Yes...but with this being the case, why not change the name of the award? Mauer isn't valuable enough for his team to win this award. If the Twins somehow come back to win the Central, than he deserves it 100%, but his numbers are meaningless. It's exactly like Kei Igawa pitching well in Triple-A. If it doesn't help take your Big League club to extra baseball, what does it do besides boost your individual stats?

The problem is...is the argument the most valuable player to the team? In that case, Mauer is, regardless of how his team has finished.

I think a team's finish should matter, but if you think about it, the Twins are "sort of" in contention. They aren't completely tanked like the Royals. If the Twins missed the playoffs but were close, I would give it to Mauer for almost getting his team there, but as the Twins continue to slip, I think Mauer's case gets weaker.

The thing is, they have a history of giving the MVP to the MOP as you call it, during a year where there is no clear frontrunner for the MVP. I believe this is one of these years. Like you said, DJ and Tex are two big candidates, but will their votes cancel each other out a bit? I think so...to some extent.
