Toronto will be improved this year if they manage to stay on the field and off the dl. Problem as usual is the beasts of the east, I find it hard to believe they are better than either of the yanks or sox, best case maybe they beat one of the two and with the central looking as good as it does even making playoffs as a wc is a lognshot. It would be great to see but jays would need alot to go right
Exactly why I like them. What would their odds be if they played in any other division an baseball. The Rockies came out of nowhere last year and I think its Toronto this year provided Halliday is relatively healthy. Besides every time I bet Toronto Matt Stairs comes up big and hits a HR, maybe this year he has a banner year.

I like the Reds at 70-1. I don't think they will have anywhere near the best record in baseball or the NL even, but they only need to win the weak-ass NL Central to get in the playoffs. At that point wouldn't you love to have any team at 70-1, regardless of who they have to beat? If the Cards could win it all two years ago with a team that finished barely over .500, anyone can once they make the playoffs. The Reds are going to score about 900 runs this year. I am thinking with their lineup they will be able to bludgeon a lot of teams with offense, even if the pitching sucks again. I do think the pitching will get better than last year becasue basically it couldn't get worse, especially the bullpen which is going to be better with Cordero. If Harang does Cy Young award contender good again, Arroyo pitches well and eats innings, and at least one of their two prospects of Homer Bailey or Johnny Cueto does well, finishing above .500 should be in reach. That maybe all it takes to win the Central in '08

Maybe if you had even an average bullpen. Starters can't go 9 every game. Teams are going to just try and stay close until the 7th, 8th, 9th then unload on Jones et al

Just to update anyone, the biggest move has been on the Blue Jays who have dropped 500 cents!! They have gone from +3313 to +2822 and most of that was before the Rolen trade, I guess we know who the money has come in on.
I'm telling you keep an eye on those Jays this year, they look even better now if Rolen's shoulder is fine and he can provide a bit more than he did last year with the stick as he is a monumental upgrade over Glaus playing the field. With an infield of Rolen, Eckstein, Hill and Overbay and an outfield of Wells, Rios and Johnson I'd argue that defensively this is going to be one of the best in baseball this year.

I follow the Jays closely man. I share your optomism but there is still a gaping hole in the lineup. Lets face it, Zaun is terrible ... he's a career borderline player who boosted his stats for a year or two by saucing. Now that he dropped 20-30 lbs, he's useless. And behind Zaun at the moment we have Sal Fasano. There are 2 mediocre prospects who are borderline major league ready in Thigpen and Diaz but neither have proven themself at the major league level. I personally think Diaz is ready and would be an improvement from Zaun but he didn't reach the bigs last year while Thigpen made a few appearances.

In my opinion the best way to make money in these days would probably to just take at team to win the NL pennant only. There is a ton of value with NL teams because it is so wide open. For instance an NL West team like the Dodgers to win at about 11-1 with their pitching and young bats with a full year under their belts looks solid. Even the San Francisco Giants assuming the Barry Bonds circus is now behind them they can go back to concentrating on baseball and nothing else. If Zito rounds back into form along with Cain and Lincecum you never know.

I could see putting $50 on the Reds at 70-1for shits and giggles that I also think that they can score enough to offset there shit pitching and win the shit NL central possibly in slink into the playoffs.
And I am going to put at least $300 on Detroit at 9-1

Go ASTROS! On paper and I know that doesn't win you anything but they have the best line-up by far in the NL. The pitching in the bull-pin is as very good with one of the best closers in the game and solid set-up guys. The starting pitchers are a bit of a question mark, but if the Wizard pitches at the Cy Young caliber he has been and a couple others step up the could run away with a weak division. The odds are very much worth taking a chance on them.
best lineup by far in the NL? i have to question that....phillies and mets with better lineups, and you can make a case for rox and dodgers...i don't even think the stros have the best lineup in their own division...i'd take the cubs and brewers over the stros lineup....tejada is done, esp post juice....3 best hitters are berk, caballo, and pence, but after that, kinda weak....kaz, wigginton - eh....bourn is a young stud, but has to prove it first, and towles is better defensively....and it's bullpen, not bull-pin

Dude I hate to say it, but you are an idiot. Jones was one of the best closers in the leagues. Look at the stats. Yes, he did blow games. Yes, he has many nail biting performances. More times than not though the guy gets the save. Christ...

His ERA was 4.26. Whatever the guy knows it is tough to score runs. I would rather have a closer that puts the ball over the plate and gives up runs and gives his team a chance than a closer who walks everybody.

Jones...38 saves, 4 losses.
I will take that.
