is what Varitek hit in this series.  That actually might be higher than what he hit in the regular season.

He is worthless.  I'm glad him and the Red Sox are on a flight home for good.

There's not many pitchers who would have hit that low with the same amount of BA.

I might be wrong here, but i think tek was about 20th in RBI, 20t in runs scored and 10th in homeruns among catchers this season. Not great but not all that bad either. i think we need to cut him a little slack for his hitting the last two years. He has had to go a long way to become accutome to DiceK and Okajima, and a load of other young pitchers, and done a really good job at that. I think hell be able to focus on his hitting much more looking towards next year and we should see some better numbers.

He has such an impact on the game regardless of his at bats.  Who knows if they would have been there if it wasnt for him.  Look back to the ALDS, when the angels tried the suicide squeeze.  What was the pitch call?? fast ball up an in.  that is not a coincidence, that pitch was called beacuse of a a fast runner at third, a decent bunter at the plate, and the Aggels history of squeezing and squeezing in tense situations.  Think Kevin Cash would have recognise the sitution and called a fast ball up and in?? i dont know, but varitek did..... Varitek has done this stuff all season, but people like to look at the box score and imply that he sucks.

Well if Tek is so baseball smart, make him a coach then. No reason to keep an automatic out in the lineup year after year.

Give me a break.  Joe Mauer had to deal with Blackburn, Slowey, and Perkins...NONE of who had pitched a lot at the major league level.  And they were all pretty successful.  He also won a batting title and was fantastic defensively. He had a better fielding percentage (although it was very close) and threw out 29 runners attempting to steal....Varitek only threw out 16.
 
Your argument is a bad one.

Soto was in his first full season as the starting catcher and put up good hitting numbers while still calling good games for Cubs pitchers.

he calls a great game per some Boston Fans. Yet who wouldnt call a great game when he has dealt with guys like Beckett,Schilling,Dice K,Pedro,Lowe all professional pitchers.
 
0.50 i dont think he can hit it off a tee if he wanted too.
 
Great game calling throughout the series by Vari-choke. HOw many HR's did the Ray's hit in the series? He didnt look to sharp with the beatdown Lester,Beckett,Dice K,Wakefield all received at least once.

He was 11 for 60 (.183) in Sept.  He went 1 for 20.....ONE for 20 in the TB series with 8 K's and 17....yes, SEVENTEEN left on base. 
 
I looked up the definition of sucking and this absolutely qalifies.

I can say... I was honestly SHOCKED that Varitek was not pinch hit for!  That was some stupid ass managing.  Also I was wondering why Jacoby never came in to pinch run.  Maybe try to steal a base and start a rally in the late innings!

jacoby ellsbury was so hyped by fox and boston last year and what did he do in the playoffs this year? 0 for 14 as coco crisp the most scorned player on boston minus Lugo had a great series.

Mauer did have to deal with them and did a good job. But he may be the best cather in the league.  Im not argueing the fact that Tek is the best cather in the league, i am saying his offseason efforts the last two seasons may have been focused on other things such as learning new pitchers, learing Japanese, that kind of stuff.  Im also saying what he lacks at the plate he makes up for on defense at the most important defensive position in baseball.  Read my post below that one and i dont understand how u can just peg that a "bad argument". Last time i checked he cathes about 200 pitches a game. I would have my cather focus on defense befoer offense if i was a manager, wouldnt you? Argue that offense is more important than defense for a catcher. If you try to you are wrong. Argue the Varitek is a bad defensive cather (and that cought steeling stat is great, but not what im talking about). If you watched any Red Sox games and have an indepth understanding of the game of baseball you wouldnt even try. By hey, he goes 1 for 20, he must suck. Keep reading te box scores and the stats, and u will never fully appreciate the little things in baseball that do not show up in that.

Coco was not the most scorned player in Boston aside from Lugo. It was Either Timlin or Buchholz.

But a catcher is judged on his defensive abilities and that includes throwing out runners as well as other things. Quite frankly he is one of the worst starting catchers from an all-around aspect.
 
I know Boston fans speak of him as the best signal caller but how many years has Boston led the league in ERA or been in the top 3 year in and year out?

Timlin was this year but ever since Coco arrived and Ellsbury was thrown into the spotlight wasnt it Coco that the fans wanted to get rid of since last year?
