I had an eardrum burst when I was 12 years old.... it may not be as bad as some of the other things in this thread, but it hurt like you can't believe... my mom was freaking out and getting ready to take me to ER as I was writhing in pain and screaming my head off (she said that at one point I yelled "please god just kill me", but I don't remember anything except that awful pain), then suddenly a sharp stabbing spike in pain and a bunch of bloddy gunk came pouring out of my ear... I passed out after that and woke up in the hospital.. I have had three ear surgeries since then....
boy does this thread make me feel greatful for my current health and fearful of future pain!

I remember every bit of that feeling. Here is what I felt. Initial explosion...huge ball of fire and the front of the tank lifted off the ground. Holy fuck....is my driver ok? I'm fine....my gunner (directly next to me) is fine....that was fuckin huge. I hear my driver yell "fuck.....my fuckin leg." He's ok....hes alive...we made it.
Driver yells something about the tank going down. I feel it sliding to the right off the edge of the canal. We flip and drop. Brutal landing in the water. Pain everywhere. Dark. Wet. Am I upside down? Fuck water is coming in....Jesus my fuckin shoulder hurts. I scream to my Gunner who is right next to me. He's screaming that we are going to drown. He screams a lot. I tell him to shutup and tell him we need to get out of here. Smoke is pouring through the tank and I smell fuel. Jesus, I can't see anything. I can't move and the water is about to pass my head. I swallow some Tigris River water. Brutal. Then the absolute sheer fear hits me. It's past that gulp in your throat. I think about my mom telling me on the phone that she hates this war and that it would kill her if something happened to me. Then I quickly think about my 18 yr old driver. Just a kid. I see flashlights. Hear yelling. Someone grabs me by the back of my vest and pulls me through a tight hatch. I drop down in deeper water. I am free. Fuck....thank you.....where is the fuckin enemy....we need cover. ...we need QRF (Quick Reaction Force) out here now. Where is my fuckin driver?
After we all took off in the helicopter to the hospital...I slept and woke up to find out that the guys who came out to pull security for the Medevac helicopter to land were also ambushed with RPG's and mortars. Spent 36 hours on that very same canal road waiting for a vehicle to pull there Humvee out of the canal. Absolute nightmare of a day/night for a lot of people.
Incredible story Irish, it never ceases to amaze me what you guys do for our country. Thank you for all that you and your men over there have done for us

Kidney stones take the cake for me, worst pain I have ever had and I have had lots of breaks and fractures. First time I felt it I passed out while pissing and split the back of my head open. Woke up on bathroom floor with piss and blood all over me.
My vote goes to Irish with close runners up to the eye surgery and the motorcycle accident

Well, from all I've heard I need to avoid these fuckin' kidney stones.
I know they are calcium deposits. Anyone know how they form and how to avoid them. Hopefully they aren't formed by whiskey drinking, pot smoking, gambling, playing golf b/c it seems that's about all I do these days.

Never had a kidney stone, heard they're a very special pain..............
I'll tell you about my pain tomorrow...............got up at four a.m. for a golf tourney today that ended in 100+ degree weather..............til then, my friends

I have been through open heart surgeries and recovering from them has been rough but never "painful" except when you sneeze and everything hurts all at once
broke my arm when i was 12 that really really hurt but honestly the worst pain was when I had a liver biopsy done once
the procedure itself was okay but afterwards you have to lie completely still and then when they finall sit you up a couple of hours later you get this shooting pain on your side that knocks the breath right out of you. holy crap did that hurt

When I was a kid...7th grade. Playing catcher with no mask. Kid hit a base hit and chucked the bat back to me as he ran to first. Took the fat part of the bat off my face. Tooth went through my lip. That hurt.
July, 2005: Riding down a canal road in a tank (Tigris River). About 3am. Pitch dark, no moonlight. 200lb IED buried in the dirt directly under where my tank passed. It was detonated and the front of the tank came off the ground and slammed back to the ground. I remember saying...."fuck....that hurt." Was in a daze but nothing serious. Remember feeling happy that we survived it and it was detonated a little too early. Then i felt the tank drifting to the right. My driver screams to me on the headset and says something like..."we are going down Sir!!!" Immediately after he says it, the tank flips and down we drop 20 feet into the nasty, disgusting, dark Tigris River water. My ankle shatters, shoulder seperates (ouch!) and my right hand crunches. Top top if off, the water begins flooding in and I see no way to exit the tank and cant see ANYTHING. Pretty sure we are going to drown. The guys in the vehicle behind mine jumped out and opened the back hatch for us and pulled our asses out of there.

I can't imagine (as most anybody that hasn't been through it could ) what you felt at that moment.
