I just want to start off by saying that I do not advocate the use of that word. That being said, the context of his comment was obviously to show the parallel between that word and negro in its perceived connotation. By reacting in that way you are giving the word power which, in itself, is silly that people can be so offended by just a word.

so what's the difference between the word spitfire used and the word black people call each other. I keep hearing there is a difference. Can someone explain the difference? It's all good. I have no idea either. I took the Phillies for $2,000 before the playoffs started to win the NL. I thought it was a no-brainer, now I am seeing it was I with no brain. Good luck whoever you take and no hard feelings. It was a misunderstanding.

And Jarrett, when it's used differently than how I used it (a bad way, I was proving a point to a bigot to no avail), the last thing they are thinking about is how much it would offend them if used in a different context.  Don't worry about how they speak within themselves.  There are things that a white friend of yours might say to you, that if a black guy said it to you, would offend you as well... not nearly as much of course, which is why you don't immediately recognize that, because white people don't have a word that carries the weight of hundreds of years of oppression of our ancestors.

I wish I could join organization #28, the National Association of Black Scuba Divers, but the name implies that I would be excluded because I am white.

In Denmark we do not use the term colored since there are not many black people here.

If i had to chose between the N word, Cracker and Colored.. i would use colored.

My British mother used to say "what color are they" after Americans said that...Growing up in the south I used to see drinking fountains bars ect marked this way. Dam glad to see all the hate and ignorance that has been educated out of society but dam sad to people using words that instill hate or hurt people when they are used. I learned in the jungles of nam how great all men and women are and how hate defines uneducation and all that is bad about peoples insecurity and false teachings. Proud to bring up my sons with diversity and proud that they have friends of all backgrounds and cultures. God Bless All of Gods Children as my Grandma would say.
