My memory is bad, but wasn't he told to let the cops show up and take care of it?  I'm not saying he didn't have a right to approach him, but he was told NOT to and he did anyway.

From the transcript of the 911 call, all Zimmerman was doing was trying to keep track of where Martin was at until the cops arrived.

The transcript is incomplete in reality......at the end of it, he doesn't even seem to know where Trayvon is.  What matters is what happened between the end of that transcript and the death of Trayvon.  

And I have no idea if Zimmerman is guilty of murder.   But the transcript you reference doesn't really matter here.  It's what happened AFTER that.

That may of been the case Slovak. I am not saying I know what happened that night by any means. But I have heard news stories and even read heard the transcript of the call and it seemed that he did make the call and was subsequently told that the cops did not need him to do anything else. Now what happened after that is entirely unknown. Did he just stop and look form a distance or did he actively continue to follow Martin? We do not know. But if it was the latter than this opens up room for further discussion.

Believe me, and I have said this all along, I am not supporting Martin here. I am just saying that things also seem as if they could of been handled differently on Zimmerman's part.

Yeah, but how did it go from his "head being in the right place" to a 9 mil in Trayvon's chest?  That's the question that needs to be answered.

And like Matt, I'm not saying Zimmerman's actions weren't justified, but you say he was just an "observer and reporter."  Is that really all he did from the time he saw Trayvon to the time he shot him? That's what needs to be answered.

The same thing if Trayvon Martin's mother doesn't throw her 17 year old son out of his home, he isn't there in the first place.

You are telling me a 17 year old can only be out later at night and on drugs if he's been kicked out of his home?

I was out after midnight as a 16 year old drunk or high PLENTY of times and I was never kicked out of my house.  

That's a preposterous statement.  Maybe he isn't there at that exact date or time, but that's not the point.  Kids that age are out at that hour ALL the time.

I went to the store last night for some groceries.  Forgot a package of ground turkey.  Ended up going back to the store.  If I had been killed by someone in the store, is it for sure my fault because I forgot to grab the the ground turkey when I was at the store earlier?

His mom kicking him out has NOTHING to do with this.  What matters is what the fact are surrounding how they got into an altercation and why Zimmerman shot him.

Dumb circumstances don't matter here.

And he could have easily been some schmuck with a great family who just happened to like going for a walk at night.  

Slovak, I'm generally on your side, but you're way off here.

And all that said, I'm not even saying Zimmerman is guilty.  Just trying to focus on what really matters in this case is all.

I get it, but you can talk about "what ifs" all day long about pretty much any topic.  

If Zimmerman truly murdered him, then it's not Trayvon's fault or his mom's fault (for kicking him out).  Now does a troubled home make it MORE likely a kid is troubled outside of home? Sure. But it's not a cause and effect gig.  The only thing that really matters are the facts of what happened between those two when the confrontation occurred.  

My initial gut says Zimmerman won't be convicted because of reasonable doubt, but I don't know if we'll ever know exactly what happened.  There is only one eyewitness and that is the defendant.

the narrative of events according to Zimmerman is:

1. He is in his truck and sees as "suspicious" person walking away from the sidewalk to a cut through behind a row of townhomes

2. Zimmerman exits his truck, calls 9-11 and reports this while walking toward Martin in an attempt to direct police to the location of this "suspicious" person.

3. The dispatcher asks Zimmerman if he is following, he says yes, she says "we don't need you to do that" he says "ok" and turns to go back to his truck.

4. At some point after this, Zimmerman claims Martin came from behind him out of his sight and sucker punched him.

The fight and shooting follow...

Zimmerman didn't do anything that any other neighborhood watch volunteer wouldn't probably have done or was supposed to do. You observe and report, which is what Zimmerman did. He just happened to run into a thug tough guy that night who acted out with violence.


100% wrong.  Neighborhood Watch should not be armed, and should not get out of their vehicle to confront suspicious people.  He should have stayed in his car and let the Cops do their job.

Actually slovka is somewhat correct and you are the one who is wrong. Zimmerman was not on watch duty that evening and was in his legal right to be carrying his firearm. He was on his way home from the grocery store.

Most neighborhood watch units actually walk their watch routes and don't drive around, so I don't know where you are getting your rules when you say that they are supposed to stay in their vehicles.

my guess is that most people by now, with or without these texts, have realized that Martin was not a model citizen

true but --- how does this relate to the event that took place (in terms of how it went down and how it matters in the courtroom).

some neighborhoods in Florida are set up with cars through the sheriffs dept. You have to go through all kinds of stuff to get quailified to drive and patrol. When on patrol you are not allowed to carry even if you have a CCP and you are not to engage with any suspects.....BUT, he was not on patrol and had every right to be carrying and get out of his car. He did nothing wrong at all and was attacked by this thug kid. If the kid was so scared, why didn't he take off running or take off after he knocked Zimmerman to the ground.....instead he gets on top of him and beats his head into the ground. Clean shoot as far as I'm concerned per the way the law was written.

It is unfortunate what happened to him and for that matter Zimmerman as well,  but i'm pretty sure this kid didn't have the cure for cancer and didn't look like he would be a productive part of society..  Wouldn't have been surprised if this didn't happen and with him wanting guns and using illegal drugs and dropping out of school and his mom kicking him out if jail wouldn't have been part of his future..
