They are called latinos.  They aren't called blacks.  They should be counted as latinos in the majors, but blacks in the majors.

How is he wrong? When people talk about "black" or "African American" ballplayers, they mean guys born and raised in the good ol' U.S. of A, not Venezuela or the Dominican Republic. Maybe from a visual standpoint Ryan Howard looks the same as Pedro Martinez, but as far as categorization goes, they are not. What's so hard to understand about that?

You are 100% right and so is Torre Hunter. Latino players are latino players they are not black, even if they have the appearance of being such.

I know someone from Dominican Republic who is very dark skin. I once asked if he considers himself black and he got very offended and said no I am latino.

Let me give you an analogy so you can better understand the situation. The way Hunter feels towards black Latino's, is somewhat the same way you feel towards white liberals.  Sure, from a distance, you the conservative may look just like a liberal and vise a versa.  However, below the surface you see yourself as being much different, perhaps even see white liberals as being "impostors" who do not reflect the true American.  Whereas, in your opinion, conservatives/Republicans stand for the true values and ideals of America.

So with that being said, sure...Black is Black, but when you look a little closer black Latino's and black American's are different and  have different baggage.

The accuracy of the term "African-American" is an entirely different thread altogether, but let me just say this: when people talk about "white" basketball players, do they mean guys like Pau Gasol and Manu Ginobli or do they mean guys like Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Troy Murphy? I'm pretty sure it's the latter...

get a time machine and go back 70 years, they arent letting Vlad Guerrero in this big league either.

The constant need for people to count people by skin color and race etc and complain that "there arent enough" annoys the shit out of me

There is no more level playing field than sports, If you are good enough you are in the bigs if not then you arent.
