This guy was Sportscenter for me before I had cable.  Loved staying up on Sunday nights to watch his show.

I didn't watch the show as much as others but It was pretty good before cable

The sports machine.

A big desk with corny buttons and levers designed to make you think it was actually controlling the highlights.

Unreal that a once a week show was how we used to get highlights.

Would watch almost every Sunday night before school the next day.

have a little more respect for a pioneer in sports broadcasting...without george michael it could be argued we wouldn't have NBA TV, The NFL Network and/or the national prominence ESPN has today...

Loved the Sports Machine ! ! I always wanted his gig, nice n easy n quick; no frills. He was great. One of the last of the good guys.

Grew up watching it .. I used to call in to the hotline and regularly get score updates/results .. I met him back in the day .. good man and yes a true pioneer
