if you want to take really good care of it, there are definitely treatments that you can add. google around.
it's not easy to keep healthy water for fish if there is too much human interaction. for example, some people i know gathered hundreds of sea shells and put them in the shallow areas of their pond. that sends the PH balance out of whack and all their animals died. it's no joke.
you can probably get away with putting some water in, but it will cost you a lot of money if you have to keep doing it. where's the water going? is there a drain? i don't know too much of what i'm talking about, but i have had many fish tanks, small coi ponds. all man made stuff. i imagine natural ponds are a different story. good luck.
