Referring to the heading... so you don't hit 16 against a dealer Ace, 10, 9, 8, or 7?

Well no. Basic strategy says to hit. I couldn't spell out ("if dealer not showing A, 10, etc.). The title is generalizing the 'drunk play' that screws the table.

The variance has actually been proven to even itself out in the end. Hitting a 16 "at the wrong time" will lose you just as much money as it will win you in the long run.....

Just a superstition of mine, I always want a strong fundamental player on third base.  It just seems the table is better when you have a solid player before the dealer draws his cards.

Hitting on 16.


The dealer proves time and time again that many cards 5 or less.

Dealer showing 6.

I stay on 18.

Dealer flips 10.......(in your mind you are jumping for joy! Yes!!! Bust bust bust)

Dealer hits and flips a 4.........20


I lose.



Scam of a game. Dealer kills everyone in the long run hitting on 16 and the biggest con to the game is the player loses before the dealer even plays. Nothing worse than busting then the dealer busts.....Player should push IMO.


Everybody insists that you HAVE TO PLAY BY THE RULES or the book! My point is how long have casinos welcomed players that "play by the book" of "smart plays" in certain situations.

My favorite is to meet a chic and after getting to know her. Some guy she knows somehow had told her he plays BJ for a living or for extra money. Of course gullible women believe that crap story because he builds himself up to a woman that knoows nothing.

So in her mind he plays for a living and now I get to meet this "pro" and for some reason it always just ends up being some douc'he that is a big talker and knew she could not debunk his rounders life story.

These are the dumbest people on Earth.  Almost everyone plays by the book and gets their fools handed to them.  

Unless you are counting cards or have an aggressive system you have zero shot of winning.

I have a question for you guys. I understand pretty basic black jack strategy but am definitely a beginner and willing to admit I don't know much when sitting at the table.

My question is: what makes a good third base player? Is there a system or strategy to follow? I've heard of people saying they want a good third base at a table. However I have never heard anyone explain what makes someone play that position well.

Thanks for your time.

Oh, and I'm headed to Vegas Friday so any advice may actually end up being used.

Let me explain..The player sitting in final position before the dealer acts should know basic strategy. If he hits 15 against the dealers 6 up card and gets a 10 and busts, giving the dealer the next card which is a 5, the whole table gets angry at him for taking the dealers bust card.

The other players really want consistency

 

The reality is that blackjack is a losing game unless you are counting cards. From my 70 odd years of experience, you will never win in the long run. trust me. Reason being, the player has to act first.

Concentrate on poker, or sports betting, you'll have a better chance

More stupid thing ever, not you but that philosophy.How about when he takes a card that would have helped the dealer and the next one busts the dealer..............or any number of other variations.

Here is the best advice:

Play poker not blackjack. BJ a long term losing game. Any 'fun' you'd get out of it will be quite costly.

Any time you want to burn should be done IN THE SPORTSBOOK, not at any table outside the poker room.

I implore you not to give your money away.

^try folding jack 6 at a blackjack table and see what happens...poker? Straight into the muck and if you are not the blind, the only thing you lose is about 1.5 minutes of your time...

This.  I don't care if you stay on 15 every time, but don't give me the old, "I've got a gut feeling"  bullshit.  Drives me nuts...

The argument is not "Oh god, the drunk guy screwed me" because of course it can work in your favor the other half of the time as Train alluded to.

It was a title that was indicative of a 'fuc*-up' by another player at your table where you should have won but lost because of a hit, and that was a segue into the video.

This was not about probability or anything of the sort.
